I know I'm late on this, but I can't get over how much All Get Out's Nobody's Likes A Quitter sound like Manchester Orchestra. I know Andy helped with some writing and production, but there are moments in the voice and delivery, and pretty much everything. It'll tie me over until new music in the summer.
Hat was my biggest complaint about that album. I love All Get Out but I don't want them sounding exactly like Manchester. Which that album did for me, it seemed like a watered down ManOrch.
you guys should listen to animal flag, i like their record more than anything manchester or AGO has done in years
See I don't get this. Maybe a couple songs (specifically Whatever) pull from Simple Math a bit, but for the majority I don't think the album sounds much like Manchester. Maybe the harmonies from Andy, but even that makes it feel more like Bad Books than anything. I feel AGO definitely stand outs with their own style on NLAQ. In the same ballpark? Sure, but definitely not a watered down MO. Songs like Sideways, Chasing Skirt, Now You Got It, or Home would sound weird on any MO record.
It sounds like a Manchester Orchestra record throughout. Big time. That's not a bad thing either. I just brought it up, although the other poster didn't seem to like it. This is the first All Get Out record I listened to. Had it playing while I was driving and thought it would tie me over for a while since I knew Andy worked on it. As a Manchester Orchestra fan, I really liked it. As a first time All Get Out album listener, I'd pay attention to their next release. Very MO. Happens though. New Matthew Ryan record hand Brian Fallon play and produce and there is a Horrible Crowes/Solo vibe there on a few songs.
Exactly how I felt about it. Really enjoyed NLAQ and still play it all of the time. Scratched that MO itch. Hustle Up Starlings is my current addiction. Highly recommended for anyone who's into the Brian Fallon/Horrible Crowes type sound.
Room To Talk - Music starts out Moving Mountains like, vocals kick in and I get a MO vibe, and when they slow down it really sounds like Andy. Home - Inmediately sounds like MO Whatever Chasing Skirt - Music Intro reminds me of old Weezer Surf Wax USA kinda vibe, then slips into a more Bad Books I sounding song Whatever- Whole Song. Empty Nest - Vocal delivery, maybe a little less actual vocals on this one Get My Cut - Whole Song. Now You Got It - A lot less on this song. A band that would tour without Bad Books Sideways - After about 30 seconds I get a Pensacola vibe ATX - The tracks Simple Math and Virgin probably influenced this song Wait List - I hear a little big of Right Away Great Captain's second record on this song I've listened to Manchester Orchestra since Like A Virgin Losing A Child came out and this is the first All Get Out record/songs I've listened to. The similarities are huge and make sense. After 5 listens I'm really happy I decided to give this record a shot. Good on Andy, All Get Out, and here's to being excited for a new MO record.
Only bc Andy probably wouldn't have produced/written parts of nblq, there are Manchester influences on it but I believe Nathan's a great song writer and I hear a ton of other influences in his must as well
I'm not saying he isn't a great songwriter and isn't influenced by any other artist, but they've been pulling from MO's sound since pre-The Season
I guess I just don't hear the same thing. But that's fine! If that's all you've heard from AGO you should check out The Season it's got some early MO vibes, and then Nathan's solo record Ground Me. NLAQ feels like an extension of his solo stuff more than anything else.
yeah I mean AGO is very much pulling from that ManOrch style of songwriting and theres nothing wrong with that. Doesnt take away from AGO but there are a lot of similarities between NLAQ and, say, METN. Another band that I think took in that ManOrch influence and did it well was The Dangerous Summer. It wasnt quite has explicit but theres definitely some instrumental and vocal moments that sound like theyd fit in a ManOrch tracklist (Knives being a prime example). NLAQ also feels like a continuation of Nates solo stuff so theres that in there too. idk all these bands are great i think i might fire up The Season before work and jam out
I would swap The Dangerous Summer for Paper Rival and their one and only album Dialog. Fantastic record. Just as good as the best work from AGO and ManOrch imo.
Just started getting into The Dangerous Summer earlier this year and they definitely can get some of those big METN guitar tones. More glossy, but still similar big punchy sounds without being too abrasive.
Wait, there's even a debate that AGO sounds like MO? I thought this was known. Ever since The Spitting, really. AGO is its own beast and does more than enough to differentiate itself, but the similarities have always been there. You can even go back through the AGO thread. When Home came out, someone commented "this sounds like MO." And then Whatever came out, and people commented "this sounds like MO."
It was more of a debate over them being a "watered down" version of MO. I don't think anyone denies they have their similarities.
