simple math has some of their best songs, but i think the title track might be one of my least fav MO tracks ever.
Simple Math, song and album, are both great. It's been a little while since I revisited it, today's a good day to do so.
I like the album but hate Virgin and the title track. The way Virgin is mixed loses me every time. When it gets "loud", it doesn't get all that loud.
The whole production/mix of Simple Math bothers me. It just sounds flat and dull, which is a shame with the varied instrumentation they brought in for it. I don't think it's a bad album, but I've certainly never felt inclined to return to it since 2011
I actually second that I wish Virgin hit me with loud when it's supposed to be loud the way METN does. Still love Virgin tho
Depending on what mood I'm in, I could probably make an argument for any of their first three releases to be the band's best. I cannot do the same for Cope (although I do still enjoy Cope).
The lyrics to Simple Math are so silly and Virgin just falls completely flat. Mighty, Pensacola, and Apprehension are the strong ones on that album.
i remember being hype as fuck for virgin when it was previewed and then being completely underwhelmed. deer thru pale black eye tho and leave it alone, apprehension, leaky breaks is probably the most underappreciated stretch in their catalog. it really makes me upset how little recognition leaky breaks gets
The stretch of Deer, Mighty, and Pensacola, as well as the closing duo of Apprehension and Leaky Breaks is about all I enjoy from Simple Math anymore. That album just takes a complete dive from April Fool to Leave It Alone
It's interesting how polarising that album is. Seems to be a lot of variation in opinions down to the songs that people enjoy most.
I listen to Cope more than any other MO record. It's just one of those albums I throw on when I don't feel like thinking about what to listen to. It's a staple for me. That said, I believe their is an argument for each and every one of their records being their best work. Maybe I'll expand on that soon. I can say the one I return to least by far is ILAV. Weird right?
Simple Math the album is easily Andys best lyric output with Manchester. Apprehension, Leave It Alone and Leaky Breaks are some of the best, if not the best, Manchester songs
Motherfucker straight up preaching y'all. Those are my 3 fav songs on SM and they're all outstanding.
I see Bad Books II on Spotify and Bandcamp, but nothing about Bad Books I. Is this a thing? Where do I find it?
