I have no idea what this thing is going to sound like but I feel like its going to be extremely expansive in sound.
NICE. so this should be completely finished by the end of february. i'd expect a summer release regardless of it's on a label or not.
I think Cope is some of Andy's worst writing. There were a couple of stand out tracks, but most of it was a slog to get through. Simple Math is still my favorite album of theirs, but that's only because I don't think they've ever put together a truly cohesive album. I have high hopes for the new one, though. I'm hoping that the creativity they showed in scoring Swiss Army Man has carried over.
Since we can't help but rank Manchester albums here is how it sits with me today (this changes frequently). 1) Virgin 2) Simple Math (I think it's Andys strongest lyrical output under Manchester. I also think it's their most complete) 3) METN (this switches with #2 a lot for me, I think it's mostly amazing. I just really don't like I've Got Friends, I know it's a fan favorite but out of these first three albums it's the only song I skip) 4) Hope because it's way better than Cope 5) Cope ( I pretty much only listen to Top Notch and that's it. I strongly dislike the Cope version of Every Stone)
Cope has some super high highs, but I don't love the bookends and yeah, it just al sounds so flat to me
I just hate when the full band drops in on Every Stone and the drums disappear from the mix. Happens a ton of times throughout the record. And really? I love the bookends.
For me it's Trees or The Ocean. Or Every Stone or Indentions. Or Cope. I don't know, they're all bleh. The Mansion and Top Notch are excellent, though.
Yeah, that's the big complaint with it haha. Really frustrating I'm not super into cope or pride, which I group together bc of the like kinda heavy sludgy sound both share. I don't think that sound suits then well
