They were gonna do some demos from Simple Math rerecorded in a different style like they did with Cope/Hope.
Leaky Breaks is amazing, y'all are fucking up. The guitar tones on that song are worth it alone and then in addition it's a intricate selection of melodies and lyrics that massage the ears.
I wish people even could sound like Isaac Brock successfully while still maintaining an identity. That first Cymbals album did it tho
how is this comparison even being made are we hearing the same voices or does anyone with a raspy voice sound like issac brock the only person who i confuse issac brocks voice with is jack white lol
No he doesn't, but some vocal melodies sounded like something Isaac would've done in the early days. There's one on... Cold Spring I think? That is just spot on. I think similar vocal melodies go a long way to sounding like someone than just having similar voices
i don't think that makes him lose identity though, you can borrow or be inspired by other music while still having your own identity. Leaky Breaks provides a lot of things you can't get in a modest mouse song, also it really doesn't sound like modest mouse so again don't know why we're talking about it
I said cymbals succeeded in doing it while also crafting their own identity. I'm agreeing with you besides the last part, because I do think there are parts reminiscent of modest mouse's early stuff on that first album. It was brought up so I participated with what I thought, no need to engage if you disagree so strongly ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I feel the need to participate because I think you're being unfair to the band. I'm agreeing with you that some of the melodic content and vibe is similar, but am disagreeing because you said you wish they didn't lose identity because of that. The intention, production, and context of the song are all things you couldn't get in a modest mouse song and very much Manchester Orchestra. You could make the same comparison to any number of songs because music is inspired by music so as long as a band isn't just being straight up derivative and bringing something new to it then I don't think it's fair to say it lacks identity.
Oh I wasn't talking about Manchester Orchestra specifically when I said that, that was a general comment. I think Manchester Orchestra has a very singular identity in this scene of bands, whether or not they bring on other influences on higher priorities. Misunderstanding due to unclear sentences on my part, my bad
Yeah, no way. Mean Everything To Nothing was one of the first CDs /pieces of music in general that I actually bought. I don't even really disparage cope which I'm lukewarm on at best
I want a recorded version. I'm surprised they haven't. Seem like a fan favourite when it was played live
A couple days late on the Leaky Breaks discussion, but it's my second favorite album closer of theirs, behind Colly Strings. Love that it takes us through different stages of his relationship with his wife based on how much he was drinking at the time. "I was drinking heavily, I burst into your bedroom belligerently/confusingly" and then "I've been drinking carefully, I creep into your bedroom and watch you sleep."
we should make a push for it on the facebook page. we'll at least get andy to say something about it not coming out then. haha
