Opposite sides - the soundtrack version - borrows a lot from other songs on COPE. Its verses sound a lot like the verses of COPE. Its pre-chorus sounds like something else on the record, but I can't find it right now. Maybe pre-chorus from Girl Harbor or Mansion?
Yes. I was thinking the same exact thing. I haven't listened to COPE in a long time, so I couldn't put my finger on the exact imitations, but it sounds like a mixture of many of the existing songs on COPE.
I was thinking the same thing. I had to start playing Cope on my phone to figure out what song it was
Hmm idk.. I think brand new does the heavy a little better than they do but do have more great content than brand new I think. And if you combine right away great captain it isn't even close. I think devil and god is a lot better than any manchestee record and I think daisy and metn are on the same scale.
I probably would say virgin and deja are on the same level too. Nobody sings anymore and favorite weapon probably cancel each other out which then leaves simple math cope hope and b sides as bonus not sure if they are enough for them to over take brand new for me but it's close
I've preferred Brand New over the past couple years, personally. MO has only released one album I'd say I love anymore while Brand New has two for me under their belt.
I don't think either of those records has the attention to detail that Devil and God has. but i do like both of them very much
I would say that I like TDAG more than any single MO record, but I like MO way more than Brand New. Like, way more.
Idk.. the guitar work is just so much more intricate and thought out on devil and god, every melodic line has a purpose and they are everywhere and perfectly placed. I have a feeling I'm not gonna sway you though and respect your opinion, like I said I love all the records a ton and am glad they all exist for different reasons
Yeah I feel you. I think METN is more diverse than TDAG, it does and soft better plus the extra instrumentation found on METN elevates it higher. I also like Andys lyrics more, but I relate to them more.
wanna know the band that's the mid-point between the influences of brand new and man orch? it's colour revolt. they're also better than both bands
I saw the Colour Revolt once and that they were just okay. Definitely don't like them more than either of those bands
I agree Manchester is more consistent with quality than BN, they hit their stride early and their songwriting chops were polished more quickly. Most of Your Favorite Weapon + My Nine is no where near as good as the worst MO song. Deja is definitely at about even with ILAV, even if I listen to Deja more often. I wanna say METN and Simple Math are objectively on similar level to Brand New's latter discography but. My own biases say TDAG and Daisy are perfect albums for me, and Simple Math and METN don't hit that for me as whole albums. Cope I legitimately find kind of boring, I maybe listened to that once and I couldn't tell a lot of it apart. If I throw not albums proper like the Leaked Demos, the 3 Songs EP, the Mene 7" w Out Of Range, it becomes much less close and I prefer Brand New by 2 miles instead of the 1, lol. Lyrically, I think Brand New wins me over too, not because they're better or anything, I just like my prose a little on the purple side and Jesse certainly does that for me while also just catching me at the perfect time in my life.
Yeah Pride is a fucking incredible song, it doesn't top several on TDAG for me but it's better than most Brand New songs
