Whoa whoa whoa, how have I missed Sure Shot until nah. Good track. Honestly, it sounds like it could fit on any of the first three albums with some minor tweaking.
Are there any Simple Math b-sides out there? I know there's that Sinful Math thing that may or may not actually exists, but I don't know of any actually b-sides.
Assuming you mean this spot, it sounds to me like "from a ta-piece fractioned godspeed" but I don't know what that word is. Doesn't sound like time to me. I've also always thought that 'god' ends his statement and he just adds speed on could be "so i made away from atop..."? edit: asked on twitter, he said it's tar piece
Just listening to these songs for some reason I feel like it would actually be received better if it came out today.
The song mean everything to nothing is just phenomenal live, might be my favorite song in a live setting all time or at least close to brand new untitled
METN? its been critically acclaimed since it leaked. Absolutepunk, Sputnik, AV Club, Altpress, NME, Noisey, a lot of publications and A LOT of music boards and users on those sites adore it and still do. Really the only site that didnt praise it was Pitchfork, but even a couple of their writers and staffers love the album. Simple Math and Cope were more divisive.
I will probably always stand by Simple Math being the best MO album. (Though, I have hopes that LP5 will top it)
"I Can Feel a Hot One" knocked me on my ass in a way few other songs have ever done. The bridge is absolutely staggering.
METN was my first Manchester Orchestra album, and I think it's really really bizarre in the context of their discography. Not that it doesn't fit, but it sticks out because in hindsight it's got elements of the album before and the albums after. It refuses to sit in one stylistic spot, more so than any of the others. I don't think any of their albums are an obvious best in the discog -- if pressed, on any given day I'd say any of the first three -- but I think METN is special in their discography for this unique vibe it brings, it really just sounds like you're in someone's headspace. It's atmospheric but not in a way that is immediately notable. That album art fits the vibe perfectly to me, the colors really make it. All this being said, Virgin as a straight up indie rock tinged emo album (or vice versa, idc) will probably end up being classic in terms of albums from this scene, there's an element to it that's both well crafted but kind of stricken with this awesome abandon. Also features my fav MO album art
I really hope the new lp is a step back to the sound on the first two records... I like cope and simple math but there is too much palm muting on those
ILAVLAC has not held up very well for me over the years. Now, METN on the other hand, is a jam and I still listen pretty regularly.
I am getting really excited for LP 5 if it is a mix of heavy and soft, I think it will be really great for them to work with a producer and push their sound to a new place. I can't wait to hear this ha
