My favorite record of theirs changes every month. Typically switching between METN and Simple Math. Still think they have the potential to release something even better though.
I still think Simple Math is the best album this band has written but I also believe they could top it someday if they move away from what COPE was (even though it's a great record). Hearing that the Swiss Army Man OST inspired the new album is super interesting but also worries me that they're just gonna go too far in the opposite direction. METN and Simple Math work because of the way they blend genres so effortlessly
Probably just gonna shuffle their discography today tbh edit: Nevermind just gonna spin Simple Matah for now because that album is severely underrated
I would be disappointed if they went too far in that direction as well but what if they just write a great intimate rock record.. Idk would be cool i think
Definitely would be cool, I'm here for a new album regardless of which direction they take it in. I just think the secret to their best records is not entirely committing to one direction in particular. Who knows what new music will sound like though, I don't want to speak too soon. Stoked for it regardless!
I just couldn't believe how much pitchfork hates this band. They make them sound like they have no originality and no sense of melody
oh shit i totally forgot to write up my thing about ILAVLAC. I think that album is way more creative - you can rattle of bands left and right playing that kinda dark indie rock - hell we've got a "dynamic rock" thread for it - metn falls in with brand new, republic of wolves, wolves and machines, young and heartless, all get out, etc. There's no band out there anymore making music like ILAVLAC, that I can think of, anyway. I also think andy's lyrics were better on that album (lyrics are a strength of his so I'm not criticizing metn at all). I feel like he got more personal and was more direct on that album, which is something I prefer to the more religiously-veiled stylings of metn. I think they're a better indie rock band than they are a rock band. Of course that all goes out the window when they play live tho
I really think that they haven't written their best record yet, all of their records so far are good but I have small issues with all of them
Doing a discography run currently on simple Math. I think I like mean everything to nothing more than virgin but it's hard to tell. Really love simple math too I think this album actually would have been better without the strings, they take you out of the songs at times
Its a super weird movie, to be honest, but I really enjoyed it. There is nothing else like it haha The soundtrack has a bonus track at the end that's a more traditional song. It reminds me a lot of RAGC and it uses the harmony in the background that's repeated a lot throughout the movie
Definitely a weird movie but really enjoyable. Also hearing a better way during the credits was awesome
