Please tell us it sounds muddier than the original version.

To my knowledge, besides the Patreon versions, there are no reworks happening.

Andy likes where those records are in the sonic timeline of the band.

I love when we get conflicting information from 'the insiders'!

Mine is based purely on conjecture and no actual direct source outside of hearing a version of Cope that sounded re-worked.

Cope needs to be fixed to do the songs justice.

I get the band wants phases, but sometimes having a couple staples to appease the older fans is really important.

Since moneen is the best band I have ever seen live, I’ll refer to them playing The Passing of America each time I have seen them. When the song was new, when promoting a new album, on a Red Tree anniversary show, no matter the occasion, they brought it out.

Kevin Devine also feels like Ballgame makes its way out there tons into his set list.

I just hope Manchester can keep embracing a couple real old ones even if the set list is phase 2 heavy.

I can understand it being 50-60% of their last two albums.

But out of 6 albums, having 13/16 of the songs be the last two albums is a bit overkill. That's over 80%.

I think if we start to consider HOPE into Swiss Army Man as the genesis of ‘Phase Two’, set lists may start to make more sense.

They played the entire record on every date, and it kicked off the ‘acts/movements’ philosophy of building a ‘proper‘ setlist.

To people more familiar with the new material, doesn’t hearing the older stuff make you want to listen to it? I get the older stuff is maybe a little less refined, but the energy of those songs in a live setting has a well established track record.

They could have almost played the entire new record live and sprinkled in few songs after that to round out the set.

I'd love for them to do more deep cuts for the older tracks if they're bored of playing the staples

there's really no way to explain it other than they only want to play the new songs. which is fine. they're just allowed to be critiqued because of it.

This is going to be the norm from here on out. They’re probably never going to write just ‘songs’ again.

This next record will end up making the set 95% ~second phase~ material.

Do I love that? Naw, not in the slightest bit because I fell in love with those older songs being played loud as fuck in weirdo venues with a hundred sweaty people screaming the words.

    But, I get it.

Julien Baker has been playing mostly new songs on tour with a small handful of older songs sprinkled in. I like the new songs quite a bit so I enjoyed both shows I went to but I understand people who were hoping for some more older songs sprinkled in. It’s the same situation here. People who like the new songs will probably be pleased but I understand those who want more older songs played considering those are the songs that got people into the band in the first place.

It’s difficult to please everyone because you’re trying to promote your new record but also satisfy fans and play the songs they want to hear. So I see both sides.

Those “songs” are the foundation of the band musically to a large part of their audience. Lots of those songs are better than whatever they want to call the music from the new albums. I think Million Masks is great and I’m 50/50 on Black Mile. But shows not selling a new balance should represent their discography. I get always having more new than old, but “if” they are not going to playing anything old anymore, kind of makes you wonder why they just didn’t go by a new band name for Phase 2.

This is all hypothetical and they will do what they want and I guess fans will just decide if they want to go hear only newer songs. This is really a reflection of having lots of great songs and growing discography so who can argue with that.

If you’re naming the tour after the new album go ahead and play as much of it as you want. Just don’t pull an NFG and not even play all the singles a year after said album.
