Had to get back to the puppy sitter as sad as that sounds. :(

All good. I'll assume they closed on The Silence. Weird for them to shove the internet in the middle.

Really happy to hear they did the first four songs of the album straight through.

Someone said they played The Wolf?

Honestly shocked by no I Can Barely Breathe, I Know How To Speak, I've Got Friends, Simple Math, PRIDE?!, The River?

I say drop Alien and Sunshine for some of those.

Virgin should be dope. Didn't expect that.

This is the official setlist. Unsure if it will change along the tour.

They're like IT'S PHASE 2 ASSHOLES. YOU'RE GETTING ONE SONG FROM THE OLD ALBUMS AND NOTHING FROM THE FIRST

    hmmmm

on one hand, i get it. on the other, it’s really isn’t that hard to do what thrice is doing now and focus the set primarily on new stuff but still please older fans

They've been put in a weird place. They have had a renaissance with their phase 2 reaching a whole new fanbase that has made them a bit more popular than their core indie-emo 2007-2010 base did back in the day.

If I had to guess, they will cycle the old songs on each tour stop, but still keep it 80-85% Black Mile and Million Masks.

I thought the Black Mile Tour was a perfect setlist, but now they have to fit in Masks.

I get bands focusing on the new album in a touring cycle and the throwing in the hits, but even in your description you said phase 2made them a “bit more popular”. I get playing newer songs that the current lineup were more involved in, but their older stuff still fits right in with their newer stuff and you know lots of people would be thrilled to hear the older songs too and often crave songs from that era.

Needs Pride and Pensacola added. Those two get the crowd so pumped. And me. Especially me.

    The Wolf!!!!

    Virgin!!!!

Pleasantly pleased they left off Pride
My show isn't for another 5+ months, so the set will undoubtedly be different by then.

At 16 songs, they could probably squeeze in 2-3 more as well. I know they've been cutting their sets over the course of the past few years. Back in the late 00's early 10s they were playing 20ish. Seems like the last 4-5 years, it's been 15-17ish.

They won't do this, but I'd also like to see them (and more bands) go the Modest Mouse route and just have completely different sets every night, but that's wishful thinking.

As cool as that could be I’m sure there are a few practical reasons why bands don’t push themselves to have a new set list each night. I get switching things up a bit if you’re playing the same venue twice or in the same region though.

  15. Wow at no Virgin songs.

I’m good on Shake it Out, swap it for Colly Strings tbh.

I’d imagine they’re cutting the set a few songs short because of the length of songs like The Internet & The Silence lol

I find I like The Sunshine more than The Alien, but they are similar. You could play one without the other, although maybe there’s something about the combination or the sentiment of the song they like and want to play live.

I pretty much liked the whole set. If I were to make changes I'd drop (hot take) Cope and The internet. Maybe throw in Top Notch and Something from Mean Everything.

I don't think it's a bad setlist. I just find it shocking they're leaving off some major staples. But I've seen them so many times, that it's refreshing to see tbh.

is it the same for you? Prestigious

As a fan really only of the last three Manchester Orchestra albums, I was reading this thread last night thinking that I'd definitely prefer for the setlist to be heavily weighted that way. And then I was thinking about Modest Mouse as a specific comparison, since that's my favorite band and it's really fun to see them mix up the set every night and play deep cuts. I don't really have a sense of what a Manchester crowd would be most excited for, but I think it really works for Modest Mouse because a big part of the crowd is most (or at least very) into the records they made 15-25 years ago, rather than the more recent ones (with that said, I'd also like to see more bands mix things up night to night). I've never seen this band live, but it seems to me that there might be more of a split between people who like all of their albums and people who really only like/are familiar with the last few.

We've gone over our favorite setlists on here before, but I really do think the "essential" MO setlist at this point includes:

    Angel of Death
    Keel Timing
    Bed Head

    The Maze
    The Gold
    The Silence

    Cope

    Simple Math
    Pensacola/April Fool

    Pride
    Shake It Out
    The River

    I Can Barely Breathe

Those are the must-play live songs at this point in my opinion.

You can add Colly, I've Got Friends, I Know How To Speak, Pale Black Eye, etc. But those 13/14 listed above are really hard to skip.

I also am ready for them to ditch The Alien
