To be honest, I didn’t really think of the child aspect of it. Complete oversight on my part haha.

That’s literally just children in my eyes. Immunocompromised people who can’t get vaccinated should be continuing to isolate anyway and I really do not give a shit about anyone that is willingly choosing not to get vaccinated which is the overwhelming majority of people without a vaccine

At some point, there is also going to be consideration from bands and venues about the future ability to tour and host events period. A lot of places didn't survive the first shutdown. Even more have already said they won't survive a second. Federal aid to venues came way too late. There are going to be a ton of bands that just have to break up and move on if they can't play shows.

It's all absolutely infuriating, to be honest. This pandemic made me lose what very little faith I had left in humanity. There is a segment of this country actively making sure we'll never return to normal.

Immunocompromised people need groceries, too :-p. They can't all afford delivery or have someone do it for them.

"Just children" is reason enough for me personally, though

do we shut down entire industries during flu season which can also kill immunocompromised people? obviously covid is much more serious than the flu but when you're vaccinated it actually really isn't and if targeted vaccination numbers are reached i dont see any reason to treat it any differently than you would a flu outbreak if the number of people being hospitalized and dying are roughly the same as a flu, which with vaccinations it seems like that would be the case.

Because vaccinated people can give it to children. Or they can give it to adults who then pass it to their children. I suppose that's a fair point about immunocompromised people though

I see the side of people worried about children and immunocompromised people but venues have been shut down for a year and a half and bands have had to resort to online gigs which aren’t making them a lot of money. If there’s another shutdown or round of tours being cancelled some bands probably won’t survive or they will be in serious trouble surviving. It sucks children can’t get vaccinated and there are breakthrough cases happening so immunocompromised people are still potentially at risk, but a lot of these bands and musicians desperately need to play shows to keep their careers afloat.

I’d rather go to a show masked up (to vax only/negative test venues) than not go to a show and have my favorite musicians not be touring right now and struggling even more than they have been over the past year and a half.

AEG just announced a vaccinated/negative test policy for all their venues beginning October 1st. This is a HUGE step in the right direction and hopefully Live Nation will follow suit.

I read it as being vaccinated/negative test until the 1st Oct and thereafter being vaccinated only

One perspective I was recently made aware of is that if vaccinated people catch it and then pass it on, this could compromise the vaccines and more variants may develop more resistance to the vaccine. (As the virus will have 1. adapted so that the vaccinated person caught it, however mild and 2. adapted to the point it could then be passed on).

I’ve had the vaccine but I can’t in good conscience attend a show yet. Although no one I like is coming to the UK until next May so not too much of a sacrifice yet... I’m trying to support bands and artists as much as I can.

Despite the anti vaxxers being upset about this there’s already new research from the CDC coming out to support it (and I’m sure more is on the way..)

New data was released by the CDC last week showing that vaccinated people infected with the delta variant carry viral loads similar to those of people who are unvaccinated.

While this sounds discouraging, it’s important to keep three things in mind:

    1. Vaccines remain highly effective at preventing severe disease.
    2. Breakthrough infections among vaccinated individuals remain uncommon.
    3. The majority of new COVID-19 infections in the US are among unvaccinated people. Source: https://www.jhsph.edu/covid-19/arti...9-transmission-by-vaccinated-individuals.html

Forgive me, but aren’t overall children still not getting hospitalized as much for Covid? As a father of a young child myself that is what kept me sleeping well during the pandemic. Obviously just because they have less severe symptoms compared to others still isn’t a good reason to expose them or people who have just had a baby.

Been doing a lot of research on this myself as a father of a newborn…and it’s not always easy to find the information you are looking for but from what I have read there has been a sharp increase in the percentage of age 18-49 getting positive covid tests however it’s unclear whether they are presenting with more intense symptoms from Delta. However on a positive note “In states where data was available, less than 2% of all child COVID-19 cases required hospitalization and 0.00% to 0.03% were fatal” and “most recent report on July 22 calculated children made up between 1.3% and 3.6% of total reported hospitalizations, 0.1% and 1.9% of all child Covid-19 cases resulted in hospitalization. Overall, the risk of death and hospitalization among children who contract Covid-19 remains extremely low”

Just ran into Andy at the grocery store. I knew he lived in the area, but didn’t realize we shared a Publix. I told him how much his work means to my family and thanked him, told him we were excited for The Stuffing, and let him be.

Publix also updated my half sub to a whole for free, what a day!
