My favorite Andy line to pick on is in The Gold and I actually love the line overall:

    My old man told me
"You don't open your eyes for a while
You just breathe that moment down."
Forty miles out of East Illinois of my old man's heart attack

It always bugs me that he sings “breathe that moment down” and not “breathe that moment back”. It makes just as much sense directionally and rhymes perfectly with the next line! I actually assumed he was singing “back” until the Phoebe cover.

Pyotr is a such a stand out Andy track. Great lyrics and story telling from very different and unique perspectives.

His lyrics are are usually good and I don’t think he’d spend this much time writing a record to just throw in lyrics. Even if some of them feel odd to us.

Kinda reminds me of a nitpick I have from Cascade by The Dear Hunter

"I feel the heat of a thousand breaths upon my neck
And the gaze of a thousand eyes burning holes into my back"

Unless there's 1,000 cyclopses behind him, the math doesn't add up

    Die rad.

Serious question, and please don't hate.
How is this album? Been a MO fan for at least a decade, but really disliked A Black Mile. The album was just so slow and all the songs sounded the same from what I remember. Does this new album sound like A Black Mile or a tad harder and angst?

Side A is fantastic. Side B is equally fantastic.

Eh if you didn’t like Black Mile because it was slow, this might not be for you. Give it a chance though, the first 5 songs are pretty uptempo for the most part but the back half is mostly pretty chill and relaxed with a few loud parts thrown in occasionally.

As someone who isn’t as big on Black Mile as most other folks, I really like this Million Masks. It has more layers and I find it captivating. It isn’t in the vein of METN or Cope though. You could check out Angel of Death and Bedhead as two more faster tracks. Production is cool on this record It does have flares of things the guys could do in Bad Books and finds a way to introduce them in a more sophisticated manner for this record.

    Motel. Money. Murder. Madness.

The record is just a long drawn out tribute to Drew Brees, and the potential fall out and later acceptance of his retirement.
