Meh, snoozefest. I know most MO fans these days love the softer indie sound, but give me some bangers in the style of Cope and METN.
Glad to hear someone else feels similar to how I do. I just couldn't get into MMoG. I felt like Bed Head was a bate-and-switch compared to the rest of the songs.
According to their patreon podcast, the album they're working on RIGHT NOW, is gonna be filled with rockers and bangers. That being said, everything they've put out since black mile has been absolutely incredible, and I feel like there's plenty of big dynamic moments on MMOG. But to each their own!
I have loved all the dynamic shifts MO have created over the years - BUT - I would be so stoked for a record that is at it's core - the harder Cope/METN vibe but influenced with their recent stuff. that would be a dream.
Yeah, the first two albums were so pivotal for me growing up and COPE/HOPE may be my favorite iteration. Simple Math, Black Mile, and MMOG just didn't do it for me as much. I really tried to give them all time, but the heavier stuff is what I'm after from them. This is coming from someone who was obsessed with them in '09 & '10. They were probably my favorite band at the time.
Black Mile is my 2nd favorite. I know that makes me an outlier. HOPE is my favorite by a long margin. It’s one of the most beautiful records I’ve ever heard.
so is this EP separate from the album they're working on, or are these songs going to be on the new album whenever that surfaces?
I always thought I wanted more of their heavier side like METN and Simple Math, but COPE did nothing for me. I prefer Black Mile and MMoG over damn near everything they've done aside from METN.
METN is still my go-to because of the time in my life it hit but agree about COPE. If you would've told me ahead of that album, it's MO turned to 11, I would've done backflips but it just felt so same-y to me. The dynamics on Black Mile and MMOG hit such a sweet spot.
Yep, add me to the list of people who hold that album as top 10 all time. Though MMOG probably impacted me the least of any of their albums. So I don't necessarily fall on either side of the heavy vs. whatever debate.
Had chills when it got into more layers, definitely excited to have that EP and a prospect of a heavier LP later
Fair points but I think that has more to do with the production than the songs themselves. That said, there is a “sameness” to the songs on Cope that isn’t on their other records. METN has probably their heaviest moments and that album has a lot of variety. I’m not sure what my point is, lol, I guess I’m just saying that they have successfully done both on the same record and that would probably be my preference for an album from most bands, not just MO.
