I really suggest not listening to the songs that way, let them surprise you in full quality

Yeah, I have no intention to listen to anything via social media clips. It's only a few weeks away, so I think I can wait. (Though I won't hesitate to listen to anything officially released before then.)

/u/pangima over on the mo sub to add some alternate feelings:

Was at the listening party in NYC tonight and I can't lie: I didn't dig it. This is coming from someone who's been listening to the band for almost ten years now, first show was Lolla 2009. I've absolutely loved every song Andy has ever recorded (Bad Books/RAGC included). But this new record didn't do it for me. I might end up being in the minority but I think the production totally kills the album. It just doesn't have the personality that their other records have had, in my opinion, because it's so meticulously produced. The songs themselves are really well written but the production for me makes some of the songs seem like they're just being "epic" for the sake of being "epic"; almost Imagine Dragons-esque. Let me also say that I was suuuper excited when I first heard "The Gold". Unfortunately that's the high watermark of the album in my opinion. I don't see this as a "selling out" kind of thing at all but I really think the album would've been better suited without the over-produced sound. And I will also add I'm so happy the band is trying new things. Just not for me this go around. Curious to see what other people think who were there tonight. Viva MO.

One thing that is 100 percent clear to me is that this band really cares about their fans. Free event, free booze, early listening party.. also when they heard about the rsvp fiasco they said something along the lines of "if they are here this early they are big fans and we want them here" which to me was awesome bc I would have had to miss otherwise

The production is absolutely incredible tho. And there are so many little intricate things that it helps pull out. This sounds nothing like imagine dragons other than occasional synths but they keep is super interesting melodically, harmonically, and rhymically.

There is a ton of great polyrhymic stuff on here for music nerds too!

Also andys vocals arnt super polished or tuned there are so many imperfections that make it even better. His voice even almost cracks sometimes but in a super emotive way. He steped it up big time here, the note at the end of the grocery may be the highest main vocal note he has hitten (not in falsetto)
