Yea Swoon is their best I think, and multiple songs on here sound similar to stuff on Neck of the Woods too. Give them a listen!

 

The Wolf kinda reminds me of Thursday's No Devolucion.

That is a great album, it's hard to believe it came out over 6 years ago. It feels like just yesterday I was being falsely arrested at a Thursday concert the month that album came out.

 

At a family party, my cousin just yells to the amazon echo "Alexa, play bruce...Springsteen!" And Alexa goes "....playing the grocery by Manchester orchestra."

I'm like ALEXA YESSSSSSSSUH

 

Adding Prince and Tim were one of the best things that’s happened to this band.

Cool! They also mentioned editors sometimes really wanting an album to get a positive/bnm review and if the main writers were cold on the record they'd just get someone else to do it. I found that pretty interesting.

Not directed at me but I liked his review of Pale Horses by MWY and Shame by Petal

 

oddly enough, THAT'S the moment on this record that makes me think of Billy Joel lol. I just get general 90's soft rock vibes from that verse groove (I think, could also be like some folk something). there's a specific artist that it reminds me of, but I can't place the name.

well i guess my experience doesn't account for everyone's

 

probably also often depends on the kind of record being reviewed

 

anyway i mostly wanted to push back against the (extremely common) misconception that scores are always handed down or massaged by editorial and that ian had no agency in awarding this record a 7

 

i'm a freelance music writer so "the process of joining them" wasn't much beyond: i met people who work there and pitched them

 

also: thank y'all for the nice things you said about my work. sorry if i come off glib here, i haven't totally woken up yet today
