I don't even bother with their scores. They score for shock value most of the time. Like giving Sigh No More a 2.1....

Haha, I can't say I've read more than three or four reviews from their website actually.

I'd imagine there are like a dozen Linkin Park albums charting high that helped push this out of the top 25.

It's is pretty cool Arcade Fire had their third number one in a row, even if the new album is complete garbage

I stopped reading that review after more shade was thrown at Andy for being so serious while being so young. There's no possible way he can have that kind of vocabulary or feel those emotions at his age. I don't understand why they continue belittling the group and Andy in particular in seemingly each of their reviews.

It's also another review where they feel the need to compare them to all of these other artists to make their point instead of focusing on the album itself.

Hot take: Best produced track on the album...

    Motel. Money. Murder. Madness.

I can't say I've ever really looked at album reviews. Especially not on Pitchfork. I think I've only read back the old RS reviews of 'legendary' albums from time to time, to see how off base they are. Which was often.

So maybe that plays into my not caring?

I think I have like 30 people on my mostly friends only facebook page that 'like' MO. That's a pretty fair amount, I'd say. But, I have made a good number of friends through MO shows.

Last thought on the pitchfork review

Still sort of attacks andy as a song writer in the review, it reads almost like "i really don't like this band but it's really good so I can't give it a terrible review"

Honestly it's up to us hardcore fans who are passionate about this band to spread them to peole who are unaware. It's tough, peole don't listen to music/records like they used to. It's difficult to get someone to appreciate really good song writing in this era. Just can't stop trying

Far more so than film, music is subjective. Certainly there exists objectively good or bad music, same for film, but I feel like I don't pay any attention to music reviews, but I do pay attention to film reviews.

We reach for the longest shadow

It's interesting to hear someone's perspective on a band when they have completely different tastes than you. had a friend that is a little more into mainstream rock than me listen to this, and he said it sounded like mumford and sons and the decemberists? i dont know enough about either to say yay or nay, haha.

Ian's review is okay, it seems like he can't give a "rock" band a good score just because it is "rock".

Everyone knows he doesn't actually score the albums right? Pitchfork does, that is why HLNPIT only has an 8.0.. that's one of Ian's favorite albums of all time, If he scored it, it would get a 10

    I do not exist.

I played the album for my wife and she said she could hear bits of Mumford & Sons and Sufjan Stevens in this new record. She also said Andy's vocals reminded her of Ryan O'Neal from Sleeping at Last in the quieter places. She may have mentioned another band but I can't remember off the top of my head.

Def have always heard some sleeping at last in Andy's voice. Also my fiancée is now obsessed with the record as well so that's always fun haha

Always nice when you can listen to your favourite music with your loved ones.

It had never occurred to me until she said it!

He releases so much music but I'm consistently surprised by how incredible it all is. I think he's one of the most talented musicians and songwriters around. Another considerably underrated artist.

I definitely agree with this...but Manchester Orchestra DID chart well the last two albums so because each of their albums has charted higher than the last, I guess I did expect Black Mile to chart in the 8-15 range, considering Cope was No. 13 and I feel as though they're getting more popular just because of all the national exposure they've gotten in the past few weeks. They definitely didn't have any 'big' singles with Cope and/or Simple Math either. I've actually heard The Gold a few times on my wife's XM radio, and it's the only time I've ever heard them on there (although, admittedly, I very rarely listen to XM or any radio at all).
