in fairness, and i don't intend to double down on possibly being wrong, but it's a lot easier for a tv show to be certified fresh than a movie. the new season of the boys is in the high 90s i think, is everyone enjoying that season so far?

also it's only 31 reviews and how many of the more favorable critics are all that discerning?

Just finished it, really enjoyed it. I just wish it were longer, really wanted more of the family all together and getting into shenanigans. I know they said this is basically just a Malcolm movie and they aren't planning on doing more, but it feels like it ends at a good place to do another season

Yea, that felt very similar to my memories of the OG show. I haven’t watched it in over 10 years, but this felt like it was done right. Also nice that it’s just 4 episodes and can act as an epilogue for the series if this is indeed it.

    Well, it's a self-fulfilling prophecy

Watched the first two episodes tonight and can’t say I’m enjoying it so far. I’ll bar judgement until I finish the whole thing, but it’s kind of falling flat for me

The last episode was probably the best. I don’t think any part of this was outwardly “bad” but it just kind of exists. Liked to see all of the original side characters. Cranston and Muniz are doing great. The characters Dewey and Jamie really had nothing to work with.

Given the short run time and those two weren’t original actors, I was fine with them getting limited time

Their choices with Dewey were odd. It feels like they were really holding out for the original actor to return until the last minute and even giving him the option to be remote.

The Jamie stuff was sparse, but I thought the actor nailed it. I burst out laughing when he showed up to the anniversary and said he was supposed to be in guard duty!

I don’t know anything about racing but supposedly he’s really bad at it. Like has never gotten close to winning a race

I'm only halfway through the premiere and this has already topped Scrubs' revival. Feels just like the original show in every way

For those of you who don't like it, I must ask, when is the last time you did a proper rewatch of the series?

I just finished it tonight and your take is pretty much how I feel about it too. I can’t say I liked it as a whole, but I didn’t hate it either. I give it props for at least capturing the spirit of the original series, but it just didn’t reel me in.

The last episode was enjoyable though. I was actually blown away at how many of the original side-characters they got to come back.

Also, I’m biased because I am a lifelong fan, but I’m pretty bummed they didn’t get TMBG to do the theme again. Don’t really like the new version

Yep I thought this was perfect, other than Malcom's cringe proposal. Ultimately even thought that twist at the end of episode 1 worked for the overall 4 episodes by the end.

Like I said earlier, it just felt so much like the original series. Leah was perfectly cast as filling the kind of role Malcom did as a kid, and Kelly is a great addition. Everything between them and Reese was hysterical.

Feels like the writers remembered so many minor details from the original show, so the callbacks were very impressive. Seeing Gretchen again was a fun surprise. Also loved so much focus on Hal and Lois, who have easily always been the real stars of the show in my eyes. Genuinely did not expect to laugh as much as I did.
