Anyone buy any MM17? I actually got pretty good value from my box, but I have a friend that got literally nothing over two boxes.
Agreed that they totally missed with the Invocations. Like, it's surreal how bad they are. Look like Yu-Gi-Oh or promo Pokemon cards. Bleh. My friend bought a box of MM17 and we played sealed for fun. Out of my 6 packs alone, I pulled a Liliana, Scavenging Ooze, Path to Exile, Verdant Catacombs, and a foil Thragtusk. He also got a Misty Rainforest and a foil Damnation in some other packs, so I'd say he did alright.
Damn, those are some good pulls. I snagged a Cavern, Scalding Tarn, Verdant Catacombs, Arid Mesa, Damnation, foil Domri, Blood Moon, Goblin Guide, Death's Shadow, and one Path. A few other 3-4 dollar rares as well. The only problem with having one of's of expensive cards is that I want playsets now. But that's a lot of money...
i did an MM3 draft and got a good deck but not too much value. two paths, a voice of resurgence (which is down to like 12 now), and a foil deadeye navigator if i ever make a commander deck, hah.
I bought a box and was pretty miffed about it, at least compared to what I had seen leading up to it. Pulled a Tarmogoyf and Scalding Tarn, but those were my only real value cards out of the whole thing. The rest was one Path to Exile, foil Craterhoof Behemoth, Voice of Resurgence, Scavenging Ooze, and Abrupt Decay. Not a bad box by any means, but just kind of a disappointment considering what I actually wanted from the set (Lili, Blood Moon, fetches, etc.).
Highly recommend making a Commander deck (or two, or three). It's mostly what my friends and I do these days. So much fun and you can play your deck a hundred times and never have the same game. It's just such a lottery. My friends and I have yet to pull a goyf over three different MM runs. It's our white whale.
Yea my little local gaming group all play commander it's a blast. I used to keep up with standard but sets come out so fast these days for me to keep up with. Though this set is the most impressive since the whole shift after origins.
I have a weird relationship with Tarmogoyf and MM. I went through two boxes of MM15 (one on my own, the second split/drafted with friends) and there wasn't a single Goyf in either. The next weekend I bought three boosters, nothing in the first two, Clique followed by foil Goyf in the last one. Best day ever. Played FNM the next weekend and bought one booster. Non-foil Goyf. The universe is laughing at me because I still haven't played a Goyf deck, but they were at least good trade fodder.
i don't have enough cards to make a cohesive deck without throwing money on it, and i haven't had any reasons to yet because i don't have a real playgroup but i found some guys at the last draft i went to that seem cool so i'm hoping i can develop something with them
Magic the Gathering Articles Search That's a good resource for budget commander. Each article has practical upgrades you can add to make it even better down the road. I built the Selenia deck a few months ago (the list has been floating around for a while) and it's a blast.
oh yeah, believe me, i love goldfish haha. i read all these things, i know i can make a great cheap deck (i've messed around with a bunch on xmage) i just don't really wanna make any real investment until i know for sure what's going on
It'll be interesting to see if they all follow a similar theme with the attacking or in that is just to counteract the haste.
each god will have its own mechanism for activating, sort of like devotion mothership website talks about the flavor behind gods. weird that so many people are mad that they aren't enchantments it doesn't make sense with the set they aren't theros gods
Blue god Kefnet {2}{U} Flying, Indestructible Kefnet cannot attack or block unless you have 7 or more cards in your hand. {3}{U}: Draw a card. You may return a land you control to its owner's hand. 5/5
I feel weirdly about this. I was hoping for a serious "blue bomb" in this set (Torrential Gearhulk is great, but blue really isn't where it should be in standard or modern now and for some reason I felt Amonkhet would give us something to push it a bit further). The card is good, might try it as a one or two-of in Temur Dynavolt (because as a 3-drop it's pretty impressive), but it still feels kinda "too cute," just like the red god. Guess we'll see where the rest of them go.
Three Gideons in standard (Counting the pw decks)... how fun. At least he's dying soon. Maybe they will all get killed. Maybe Wizards should hire some new people to manage the story arc.
