As per all the recent sets, flavor is off the charts just from looking at that. Really excited for this.
damn that looks tiighhtt. I've been taking a break from the game (last I played was the Kaladesh Game Day) but this will probably get me interested again
Anyone watch the coverage from Baltimore/Vancouver this weekend? I had Vancouver on most of the day Sunday and it was good to see a modern event with such a diverse meta (at least it felt that way since I've been playing mostly standard). A number of Abzan Company decks back at it (which makes me really excited, as it's been the deck I've been repeatedly coming back to over the past two years -- just sleeved it up again), and while the majority of the top 8 seemed fairly typical, it was cool seeing a lot of the other high-performing decks that were just shy of top 8. Grixis Control, Infect (I know it dominated for awhile, but losing Probe seems to have dropped it out of the spotlight for awhile), and my favorite surprise, 8-Rack. I played 8-Rack on and off for awhile before giving up on it almost entirely, but Fatal Push seems to have given it a much more favorable position! Curious to see where it goes from here. Team event in Baltimore was fun to watch, too. Lots of interesting stuff and while I have no experience playing it, watching Legacy is a ton of fun for me.
I think I'm gonna go to my first FNM this week or next week. Anything I should know going in? I'm hoping if I give them warning each match that it's my first time they might not get to aggravated when I encounter cards I've never seen before and need to read them.
Honestly if you go and have an issue you need to change stores because FNM is supposed to be chill. You going to draft or play constructed?
Constructed Standard. By the end of the week I should have the complete Standard legal deck I want to use.
Eh, some stores are significantly more competitive than others, so I think it all depends on attitude. My LGS is hyper-competitive (at least compared to myself), but everyone is usually understanding and having a good time, while my old LGS was almost entirely casual with a few "cut-above-the-rest" guys that would show up here and there. I think it's good to mention you're new to the environment, but considering the rate at which standard sets release I still find myself picking up and reading cards to confirm my understanding of them, so I'm sure that's fine either way. @Allpwrtoslaves best of luck on your first FNM!
Anyone else been following MM17 spoilers? I've been refreshing reddit damn near obsessively and this set, so far, is shaping up to be one of the best (if not the best) Masters sets yet. So excited for it to release.
Some Amonkhet stuff out today: New Mechanics - Embalm - once a card with embalm is in the graveyard it has an ability that can be only used as a sorcery and you exile it Exert - when a creature with exert attacks you may choose to exert it for whatever its exert ability is, if you do so it doesn't untap next turn -1/-1 counters are a theme brick counters are a thing, symbolizing you building something to a finished product.
That cat creature just reminded me that i have a ton of foil cat cards that i used to collect. I had real weird luck when it came to getting them in boosters.
If they do some kind of god thing I hope its not devotion. Cause it pigeon holes how constructed ends up being played with devotion decks.
Haven't played since January. This set is going to reel me right back in, I can already tell. Give me tribal mummies!!
