Might be a good place to post this. If you want to play a good card game online try Duelyst. I just started playing again and it's cool to see that the game scales up pretty well (after 2 expansions). I just needed to change a few cards to have a decent deck in the meta again.

 

Yea I just started playing this. It is really fun, and definitely scratches my mtg itch without having to play magic online, or duels on my tiny ass iphone 5 screen.

 

What faction are you running as a main? I tried getting into Magic Duels so many times but the grinding is just too much. I also don't enjoy playing it digitally that much. I like it better when I'm with my opponent irl.

 

I've been running an abyssian deck that abuses deathwatch and the wraithlings. I've been ranking up pretty quick with that. What are you playing?

 

Just got into this over winter break. Can't believe I was yugioh kid growing up and not MTG. Currently running a B/G Aggro Counters deck for casual play against my buddies who will be my main opponents, but I have the cards I need to take part in a standard and/or modern FNM, which I might soon. I went to a card store in the city and they had Aether Revolt Prerelease boxes on sale for $20, and I pulled TWO fucking Walking Ballistas. Never been more ecstatic opening a pack of cards haha. Which btw I forgot is like crack. I just wanna keep opening them.

If anyone would like to give me advice on my deck I could really use it and would super appreciate the feedback.

MTG Deck: Fear the Winding Scales

Ignore the corny name, I read that apparently "eye-catching names" are more likely to be looked at, so I didn't just call it "Allpwrtoslaves's B/G Aggro Counters Deck".

Everything in the "Maybeboard" are cards that I've acquired that fit the theme and have cycled in and out of the deck as I test it out, so I can basically switch in any of those based on recommendations, or I can likely buy cheaper ones I don't have.

If you would be up to chat with me and give me some advice it's probably easier to talk here or in PMs as opposed to comments on Tapped Out.

 

I'm very intrigued by this idea. Right off the bat though, I don't like drana in it. Too slow, with the fetchlands available i would be maindecking the renegades or even the avatars over her. I might tinker with this today on magic online and see whats up.

Really? Hmm I suppose I could see that. I saw Drana being used in a lot of similar decks and loved the idea, but you're right in that as much as I love the card itself, she's too slow and I rarely get the chance to use her. The flying and counter adding made her an instant inclusion, but maybe this is where I could throw in a couple extra copies of other cards, or like you say bring the Avatars back in. I did initially have the renegades in over Experiement Ones but as my 1-drop, early game theres a high chance of not being able to pull off Revolt.

The other direction I could take it in that I've seen alot is Energy Counters. Thanks to Winding Constrictor, alot of Kala/AE cards that I've pulled synergize really well: 4x Longtusk Cub, 4x Servant of the Conduit, 4x Glint-Sleeve Siphoner, etc. This is probably the direction I would take if I end up taking this deck to a Standard FNM.

I used to run 4x Managorger Hydras, but the more we played and improved our decks, the shorter our matches get, and sometimes end up taking too long to get out and then power up, especially if I'm unlucky enough to have no WCs or Hardened Scales out. I'm strongly considering putting Kalonian Hydra back in, as I feel like that coming out is a much better scenario and more likely to lead to a win.

One last thought, I've recently discovered the card Rite of Passage, which I THINK could combo with Walking Ballista + Hardened Scales/WC to pretty much give me infinite counters: Use 1 of Ballista's counters to ping itself, Rite of Passage triggers and potentially gives me 2 or 3 more counters, repeat until I've wiped the entire opponent's battlefield. What do you guys think of that strategy?

 

Energy is good right now. Ran Glint-Sleeve Siphoner in my Grixis SB this weekend and it did a lot of work. That card draw is great, but the extra counters fueling Dynavolt Tower/Aether Hub/Harnessed Lightning + a 2/1 body constantly swinging was great.

 

been messing with a red/black aggro/tempo deck with siphoner and a ton of removal and yahenni and just a lot of cheap creatures. my favorite type of deck is something more tempo driven and i think this is close to that

 

I just pulled a Dynavolt Tower and Aether Hub over the weekend, so maybe I'll try an alternate build with the above Green Energy cards plus those two. I can probably even afford to run Harnessed Lightnings with the 4 Servant of the Conduit's too.

 

I'd be interested to see someone run Dynavolt outside of the typical URx shell. Post something up if you put a deck together! Aether Hub is one of the best cards in standard right now, for sure.

I'm also attempting to put together a U/B Artifact deck, starting with the Tezzeret, Master of Metal deck and improving it from there. I pulled a Jace, Telepath Unbound from an Origins pack over the weekend and really just want an excuse to use it haha.

EDIT: or maybe I'll bring it to my LCS and try and trade it to them for Verdurous Gearhulk finally. For whatever reason I refuse to spend $20 on a single card, but have no problem spending $30 on booster packs hoping to get one haha. I think I'm just addicted to ripping open boosters.

 

going to try to go physically drafting more often, maybe i'll finally get some pulls that'll be some of the more valuable pieces of a deck and convince me to actually play some standard, if i can stick to a deck i can use for a bit for like 50 bucks maybe i'll go for it

i am in downtown baltimore, right in the center, haha. i've been to two in the area, one about halfway between me and towson called amazing spiral, they do drafts on tuesdays so i think i'm going to go tomorrow, and then one near the harbor in canton called canton games, which is where i usually prerelease. the canton games crowd seems a little more casual than the amazing spiral crowd but i'm pretty sure i'm a legitimately good drafter/limited player so i'm okay with that, haha

 

Ah alright. Amazing spiral is the book store right? I think I've PTQed there before.

lol only five showed up so we did prerelease sealed swiss instead, went 4-0 matches without dropping a game. and like the people there play in fucking legacy tournaments and stuff

I pulled a Verdurous Gearhulk yesterday from two Kala boosters. I love it, but damn is it going to bother me that I don't have a full play set lol.

 

Reaching out into the ether here a bit, but no one at my LGS has a copy and I'm trying to avoid buying them outright -- if anyone on here by some strange chance has a Torrential Gearhulk they're not using and would be down for some weird internet trade, hit me up. I've got a bunch of random stuff, standard/modern legal. My deck pretty much just durdles now unless I hit the one Gearhulk I have or somehow stick a Kalitas and keep it swinging without encountering tons of removal.

Thinking about throwing a Chandra, Flamecaller in for alt-wincon, though...she seems like she'd be an unexpected choice and could close some games out on "uh, what?" factor alone.

 

yeah i didn't really pull anything that great yesterday, between ten packs (my winnings were two kaladesh two aether revolt) and my promo i got two panharmonicons, promo lightning runner (or whatever that double strike haste energy dude from the new set is), a push, another kari zev, another inspiring statuary...nothing too great, though i'm finally getting a bunch of the little uncommon removal i need for that deck i want to build

I bought a bunch of boosters today and got 1x Torrential Gearhulk, 1x Chandra, Torch of Defiance, 1x Dovin Baan, and 1x Cataclysmic Gearhulk. I want to build a blue artifact-focused deck, or some kind of deck built around this new Chandra, but don't have nearly enough of the right cards, not to mention only having single copy of the above. So I'm certainly open to trading if you've got something I need! EDIT: If by the will of the gods you have a Verdurous Gearhulk that would be perfect haha.


On a separate note, I think I'm going to go ahead and start using my Green Energy deck over my +1/+1 counter deck and see how it works. Since I'm using Winding Constrictor, does anyone have an opinion on whether should I stick with splashing black, or should I go red instead? I'm not sure what strategy Green Energy is best suited towards.

 

I've got a Verdurous Gearhulk taking up space in my binder - would be happy to trade! I used to do a bunch of online trading on MTGSalvation and I've got a bunch of hard-sleeves and such so I'll make sure anything I send gets to you in one piece.
