Don’t get greedy. Don’t be afraid to not play your best rare if the color isn’t deep. Take your time and think out your play lines. Let your opponents make the mistakes.
figure out the colors that give you the best combination of bombs, removal, and curve. have a focused game plan: don't jam a bunch of aggro cards in a deck that is mostly controlling. make sure your color fixing is good if you want to splash: sealed games are a little slower but this format doesn't have a lot of fixing, you probably want three sources to splash one card
I like going second in sealed if possible. The slower nature of the format means that extra card can be very valuable.
Steal as many of these as you can and make rat.dec But seriously removal is king in sealed. Play your bombs. Read every card you opponent plays twice since it's a new set for everyone and you won't be caught off guard by a line of text you missed (I've had opponents not read what a card does and I overlook it).
Speaking of prerelease, I will never have a prerelease deck better and more than than my RIX one. Played four colors, base green black splashing blue and red, with like eight removal spells, journey to eternity to buyback chupacabra and jadelight ranger, and an unbeatable bomb. Could grind out literally anyone else, was so fun
Challenger decks finally arrived. Can’t wait to play standard. I’ll upgrade later on but I want to see how they fare on their own.
I was able to grab a set of Stormchaser Mage and rebuilt my casual Izzet Clout of the Dominus deck. It looks so nasty. Stormchaser Mage + Clout is a 4/6 flying, haste, prowess, shroud on Turn 3. With gelectrode and tons of burns - the damage just adds up so fast.
I haven’t seen the God Pharaoh deck prior to GP Seattle. Looks really fun to play, and terrifying to play against.
I'm all signed up for 2HG this weekend. This will be my first Magic event in a year since the Amonkhet prerelease.
anyone here use any Magic simulator? I want to practice standard and currently don't have anyone to play with. Send me a PM. Thanks!
Holy crap approach is really fun. You’d think the second cast would take a while, but you have Opt, Ripnu Ivulet, Supreme Will and then the draw and cycle lands. You can pretty much cast it again 2 turns later. I am so worried with monored, vampires and merfolk though. I feel like they might be too fast.
get full sets of fumigates and settle the wreckage. those sweepers are the only way to really stabilize against those decks. don't be afraid of taking a bunch of damage, if you're down low after the first few turns and then wipe their board it's so much harder for them to come back, even if the life totals don't reflect it
i play xmage, stopped recently because i've been mostly playing eternal instead of magic but if you'd want to play some time i'd be in
I have those, not complete sets yet. A bomat that’s been attacking since T1 is going to be the biggest problem there, as the cards will be simply refilled after fumigate. I guess I’ll do a lot more playtesting to get a better idea on how to play around red.
I’m using cockatrice. Xmage doesn’t work on my mac for some reason. I haven’t tried it in a while though, so it might be fixed now.
I'm going to a 2HG event tomorrow night! My buddy and I usually do pretty well. However I've played 3 games of Magic in the entire past year. I ain't worried.
I used up all of my luck. I pulled a foil Karn, a Mox Amber, and a Jhoira in my sealed pool. Three mythics in six packs! However I made up for it by going 0-3 and dropping, so it evened out!
