It feels like there is zero buzz for this album, and I felt like there was some when that first single dropped. I cannot understand going forward that long of a rollout without being a superstar. Seems like someone made a big mistake on this one.
Yeah I also feel like there is literally 0 hype surrounding this release. Also she should have dropped US tour dates to give people something more to be excited about while waiting months for this.
Also I said this before in here but artists like Phoebe Bridgers and Japanese Breakfast who were moderately popular pre-pandemic blew the fuck up during the pandemic and were just kind of everywhere both during the lockdowns and immediately after (touring, making lots of headlines, etc.) and Maggie Rogers, who was also moderately popular pre-pandemic, remained relatively quiet during the pandemic and has played zero shows since shows have come back. I am sure the album will be good, and I am still excited for it, but I think she had a chance to piggyback off the success of her debut album into something huge and kind of just...missed that opportunity. Obviously it still could happen, but with the way things are going and how much hype exists (none), I do not foresee that happening.
@ItsAndrew to piggyback off what you just said, it's also pretty interesting that arguably her second biggest song (after Alaska) is Love You For A Long Time, which wasn't released long after her debut album. Shows that she definitely DID have momentum after the album and was able to find big success with a single release. And then.... not a single song for 3 years. The only two releases since LYFALT were the archive recordings album and a live take of LYFALT.
horses is easily my least favorite of the 3... she crushes the vocal, but the song sounds like a demo to me.
Hmmm, yeah this is an odd one... Kinda wish the entire song wasn't sang in her high register like that, feels like she's always at 100 while the instrumentals are a bit more subdued, feels a bit.. off
I dug it on my first listen last night. Not as inventive as her debut, but she does the straightforward pop thing well, and the hooks are strong across the board.
late, but worth noting Maggie’s streaming numbers are surprisingly higher than both Phoebe and Michelle, and I’m pretty sure Love You For A Long Time went viral some time during the pandemic I generally think her demise is exaggerated/I don’t blame her too much for not wanting to do a ton of public events during a pandemic
This kinda drags towards the back half and I don’t think I’ll come back to this nearly as much as the debut, but I dig it nonetheless
Kinda surprised at the initial reactions in here, I thought it was a really solid first listen. Honestly, the tracks that worked the least for me are the ballads (Horses, Begging For Rain & Different Kind of World), but everything else is pretty great. I've Got A Friend is a bit of a strange one though actually
I think this album is way better as a whole than the last one, and it certainly helps that more than half of it wasn't released in advance. There's no song that lifts me up and lights me on fire immediately in the same way that "Back in My Body" and "Light On" did, but "Anywhere With You" and "Begging for Rain" are wonderful.
The first one is one of those albums that I liked when it came out but just kept growing on me more and more over time. Really came to love it.
