We are getting close to their irrelevance; the Oscar season is less important than ever, and the audience shrinks as the country gets larger. It doesn't need to go away completely to eliminate its odor, but to get it down to the level of the Grammys is not impossible.
people seem incapable of excepting that someone can make something that is both a) up the alley of the oscars and b) extremely good. grow up!
It's a bad thing to make a movie specifically for an audience of old white men on a voting panel in order to get an award. Not saying that's what Cooper did here but the general idea is indeed a bad thing for art.
I enjoyed this and can see it growing on me with time. It was missing something that could have pushed it from good to great, but I can’t quite put my finger on what that would be. The decision to focus on his marriage was smart as it helped escape the usual music biopic trappings. Cooper and Mulligan both put in excellent performances. This definitely has me more interested in Cooper’s future as a director.
