Never connected with (e)vening as much, but it's still pretty good. Really the whole series is amazing. Isn't the version on Spotify not as good thou? I remember the original version of Over & Over for example was much better
Always been curious to go back and compare the original versions from the mp3s/CDs they released, to the remixed/remastered ones they did for the vinyl release. Has anyone compared and is able to describe the differences?
I started with The Everglow and that’s still my favourite. Perhaps that’s nostalgia as it was when I was 14/15. To be honest, they can be hit or miss for me. I know a lot of people love Destination:Beautiful but I’ve never got into it outside a few songs. I prefer The Everglow and the (m)orning (a)fternoon (e)vening series. I haven’t really enjoyed Singularity or listened to their most recent actually!
D:B will always be my favorite, just sounded like nothing else and still doesn't. Beautiful and ethereal.
For a band with such a distinctive sound (ie vocals and overall vibe), there is so much variation across records which means that everyone has a different favourite, a different pinnacle. Everyone will connect to something different but it’s hard to disagree with alternative perspectives because you can see the beauty there. Just thinking out loud.
Hm. Okay, I’ll check out (m)orning first since I got two mentions of those EPs and then move to a full length after. I might just flip a coin between D:B and The Everglow. Haha Thank you!
The flip side is I'd be bummed if somebody stopped after The Everglow because of how amazing it is and they feared nothing would match it You really can't go wrong starting with The Everglow and then going into DB/EPs/B-side in any order. Just as long as you save Singularity for last. It isn't a terrible album but the transition from The Everglow to the EP's is much smoother
I listened to Singularity for the first time in years yesterday. A big nostalgia hit for sure. Some good stuff on there but coming from listening to the Morning and Afternoon the day before it misses the mark. Checking in to say after listening to the original (m)(a)(e), the sound is a bit “smooshed”, the bass is lower in the mix for sure. A few other things stood out: background vocals come out more in the remixed version and generally it sounds like all the instruments have more breathing room, auxiliary instruments as well have more presence in the newer version. If you can find the original version of The Fight Song off (a)fternoon, that’s a great track that has noticeable differences imo
Mistakes We Knew We Were making should've been used in every sappy romance trailer ever, I mean that in the best way possible
yes unfortunately, I asked their guitar player on Reddit and he said “We wanted to leave the previous release special in its own way, and also re-sequence it so that it flowed more smoothly for the remaster.” also there is no morning outro or afternoon intro
I’m going to have to give the remixed tracks a listen then. Didn’t realize that they were. I have the originals on my phone carried over from when I bought the CDs back when. One or two of the reps maybe an old iTunes download. so I’ll be able to compare easily.
Went to see Mae and The Juliana Theory last night for my first concert since the pandemic. What a show to come back with. Both bands were great live, the crowd was really into it, but it wasn't packed wall to wall so I never felt uncomfortable. Even ran into a few friends from high school that I haven't seen in years, and got to meet Dave after the show. Great night!
