Thanks. I kind of want to listen to the experiential version as I think I’ll be more into that. I wonder if it’s exclusive to that package or if it will be available to stream/download. Ahhhh! Decisions, decisions!
Love the chorus and the music. The vocal delivery at the beginning is weird. Kind of reminds me a bit of Bradley Hathaway. Maybe?
Good for them for trying something different. I'd rather hear a band that takes risks than one that plays it safe. That said... hard pass on this one.
I've never been turned off by a new mae song before... I don't like this feeling. This song feels like it belongs on Destination B-Sides, and not in a good way.
I really wanna check out this new song cause of all the controversy, but at the same time I feel like I've already heard to much of the record. Hmm decisions decisions
Swing and a miss. The pre chorus and bridge are cool, but verses and choruses are a mess. Not into this one at all.
Haven't had a chance to listen to new song, so no opinion on that. (Although from others reactions, I'm not hopeful). Didn't realize that 4 songs from the ep is going on new album. Didn't really care for the ep, does anyone know if the versions on the new record are different?
I said this in the thread for the song, but his speaking voice just sounds like an extension of his singing voice to me. I don't find it that weird, but maybe I'm weird. I'm definitely weird. But maybe I'm weird when it comes to this song too.
I'd say it sounds like an extension of his singing voice... but for me it's not one that fits with the music. If that makes sense! I think I would find it more palatable if he went full on spoken word for those verses rather than this in between style. I feel like this song will grow on me with repeated listens after I've got used to it, especially as I like the music and the sung vocals.
I actually like it a good bit, interested to hear how it flows all together. Interview is interesting for those who read it all the way through. Apparently “The Overview” is describing how astronauts look at the earth.
See, spoken word is one of my favorite things ever when done well so a huge pet peeve of mine is when artists try it for artsy reasons when it’s clearly not their thing. This song doesn’t hit me that way because the vocal tone of the speaking is basically the same as the singing. Sort of like Selling the News by Switchfoot. It’s more of a mid way point and it’s quirky, but it works for me. If Dave had tried to Aaron Weiss it or something it would have landed with a thud.
The Overview sounds like it should be an old demo from whatever band they were before they were Mae and they’re releasing it as a joke.
Dang people making this sound like this was as bad as Underoath's terrible new song. Vocals aside, the instrumentation in this is great. Honestly don't mind the verses, but the chorus will take some getting used to. I think somehow ending the song at the pre chorus would have made it a bit more palatable. Didn't want to hear that chorus again.
Yeah not a fan of that vocal delivery. Instrumentally pretty good though. Overall I am unsure how I feel about it.
1st post here since the AP conversion. I dig the song. It is not as bad as the worst songs on Singularity (and there are a couple of doozies on that one). There are far better songs on the upcoming record that I'm excited to hear in their entirety.
