Sydney Sweeney is Julia Carpenter, who in the comics was the second Spider-Woman (the one with the same logo as Venom that was part of West Coast Avengers and I think the 90s Iron Man cartoon). She’s currently Madame Web, after the original one was killed in some Spidey event. Celeste O’Connor is Mattie Franklin, the third Spider-Woman. An arc of Alias (the original Jessica Jones comic series) revolves around rescuing her. Isabella Merced is Anya Corazon, aka Araña, who’s also briefly gone by the name Spider-Girl. The evil Spider-Man is a pretty dramatic reimagining of Ezekiel Sims, a prominent character in the JMS run of ASM that also introduced Morlun (and eventually was built on to establish comics Spider-Verse). Comics Ezekiel is also core to Cindy Moon’s origin as Silk.
I really love the aesthetic of this thing. A lot of the messy-but-fun cape shit I dig I like to “justify” by calling them “b-movies,” but this takes the cake on that, imo. It looks so cheap, like a mix between the CW and one of those fan films that Bat in the Sun or whatever would make, while also looking weirdly more “cinematic” than a lot of Marvel Studios shit. Getting someone who worked on Jessica Jones & Defenders for Netflix was clearly a good idea. Gosh, this is gonna be so camp.
CW comments are spot on. This is likely heading the way of The Marvels and will be a box office bomb. I also just don’t love Dakota Johnson as the lead.
Had to find this thread to say that is one of the worst trailers I can remember in years lol. Not even necessarily a dunk on the movie. Just a nonsense cut with the most Get Me Out Of Here voiceover possible
The inevitable Aaron-Taylor Johnson, Jared Leto, Sydney Sweeney, Dakota Johnson and Tom Hardy team-up movie is going be decent payoff for us who've watched all of these.
Ew, Ezekiel is in this? Also, man, I am not feeling Sydney Sweeney in this trailer. I just don't think she's a great actor like some seem to believe.
