That’s the prologue to the ascent for the rest of the series, imo

 

this thread inspired me to start my first rewatch. just got through this episode and this is where I remember thinking mad men was gonna be one of those special shows.

 

One of the best moments in the series for sure.

S4 is easily my favorite season. It just gets so dark, and then with the new office setup brings a whole new element. Plus the ending of certain characters getting together....

 

Betty sucks at being a mother tbh

Regarding Betty, I gained more sympathy and understanding for her after each rewatch. January Jones did a fantastic job portraying so many different emotions and struggles.

 

I'm on the episode of the boxing match where Don and Peggy are working on the Samsonite commercial.

Betty definitely deserves sympathy but you can tell the kids are just an inconvenience to her. She doesn't want to deal with the fact the divorce is causing issues with Sally. And I guess it's a byproduct of the era but the way she handled the masturbating thing was bad.

 

Yeah, she can be an awful mother and adult in general, no doubt about it.

That episode is quite the spicy meatball, too!

 

It’s regarded as one of the best of the series

Watched that episode just now. Don and Peggy’s relationship might be my favorite of any two characters ever.
