Just to be clear, when I was referring to Ronny Chieng’s line delivery, I wasn’t trying to poke fun at the way he talks (I’ve seen his standup before and he’s a funny guy). I was more referring to how he was like quiet and super stiff at times, then others, he’s screaming at the top of his lungs.

Saw this today, and… liked it!

Didn’t love it quite like I hoped, but I really loved a lot of bits throughout and didn’t dislike anything in it. Would definitely revisit it in the fall. I thought the storytelling and main characters worked better than I expected, which was nice; lots of sincerity inside a camp romp. Got a kick out of the opening commercial. The little girl using the old robot was a bigger “fuck yeah” beat than a lot of similar moments in most cape movies.

Between this and Malignant, I feel like Akela Cooper is a genre screenwriter worth paying attention too.

Think my biggest issue was I didn’t realize it was, nor did I expect, a comedy — didn’t find any of those bits funny really.

I don’t really need an “unrated” cut of this, tbh! Over-the-top violent spectacles can be fun (see: Malignant), but this particular movie wouldn’t gain anything by having more brutal kills. This one’s much more about the vibes for me.

Enjoyed this. The ear pulling definitely made me cringe.

This was the definition of solid. Not amazing, but enjoyed every minute. Only thing that absolutely bugged me is where it ended. Part of the tension of M3GAN getting worse was wondering what the repercussions would be for Allison Williams character. Then it just ends.

Maybe it'll pull a Quiet Place and just pick up where it left off here for the sequel. But either way, it wasn't as satisfying for me.

I’m glad it ended where it did because it ended with a satisfying catharsis (plus a fun lil tease that the M3GAN threat is still out there). I don’t need to see the aunt getting arrested at the end of this film, and I don’t know what neat bow could be tossed on top without that. If we never saw these characters again, I’d be happy to imagine what could follow.

When there’s an inevitable sequel, hopefully it starts some time later and organically informs us in the first act where these characters ended up. A new status quo where the leads have to deal with the ramifications of M3GAN… sounds like a pretty good conflict to push another story forward, imo!

This was weird and very fun. Had almost a full theater which I think added to it with some scenes getting very loud laughs. the audience also cheered when Cady used Bruce to destroy M3GAN
I wasn’t a big fan of David, the bits and jokes with that character just didn’t land for me.

From a legal standpoint, do you think Gemma would be found guilty of any wrongdoing since she created M3GAN who murdered several people? Or would this more likely fall all on the company who she created the product for?

I think I was hoping for a more earnest approach, but honestly this was a lot of fun so I don’t really mind.

I will say, another gripe I had with the film is it didn't feel as funny as it wanted to be. But every time she started singing I was rolling. So good.

Should these movies start counting down in the titles (M2GAN followed by M1GAN) or just continue adding 3's (M33GAN, M333GAN)?
