I'm not going to post all his tweets, but Lupe goes into a lot of the background surrounding the theme and background of the album on Twitter. Also he released this, which is bonkers:
Saw him last night and he was fucking incredible, played for two hours straight, the setlist was amazing and his energy was insane. I also think it made it sink in for me that this is probably my second favorite album by him. I don't think anything will top The Cool because that's one of my favorite rap albums of all time but I think this has surpassed F&L and T&Y for me
This album made me cry tonight lol. Specifically when he names the slave ships in WAV Files. The list is so damn long. Also I'm not sure if this has been posted yet but it's necessary information. Lupe Fiasco Invents Alternate Realities On "Alan Forever" & "Jonylah Forever" | Genius This is Lupe's magnum opus--his best album, and very easily one of the most overlooked releases of the year
completely agree first verse of Alan Forever has me in tears every goddamn time, especially the "moon becomes a disco ball" bit. album's a masterpiece
People have skipped on listening to this because of its length, or because of being disappointed in the last Lupe record, which is a real shame. Not only is the lyricism super dense but the musicianship is on another level, tons of organic instrumentation and little details meticulously composed into each song. I can imagine seeing this live would be truly incredible.
Definitely gonna try and hit up the CLE date. Saw him a few years ago and was blown away. F&L is an all-timer for me.
Was that the tour that was mostly F&L and The Cool? That setlist looked so fucking good. So bummed I missed it. The venue over here was tiny too.
I saw him at House of Blues in CLE in like, February of 2016. I remember it was an absolute blizzard out. He did a shitload of T&Y, actually. I think the first 30 minute of his set were T&Y.
Only thing that kind of worries me about this tour - as much as I love F&L - is unless Setlist.FM is wrong, he just performs F&L and nothing else after.
It's like 70 minutes long, that would make sense. He could at least throw in Superstar and The Show Goes On or something afterwards though
