Thumbs is easily my least favorite, can’t even remember what it sounds like. But I think I prefer full band Lucy to singer/songwriter Lucy. VBS grew on me a ton and is probably my favorite now, followed by Branco and Hot & Heavy.
I really love noisy Lucy songs honestly, I’m struggling to connect with a lot of new music lately thanks to some personal shit. Finding myself gravitating to music I loved in my teens and childhood - loud, cathartic, familiar music is all that’s hitting me rn!
That's fair! Also, goodness, I relate so hard to that right now. I've been in an extremely similar boat these past few weeks.
Finally home, don’t really have the energy to throw this on the turntable tonight but I’m very excited to tomorrow. The wax itself is gorgeous though
Jubilee also had the lowest score of the Japanese Breakfast albums haha I think I remember someone talking about it on here a year or two ago, but there’s definitely a phenomenon where once artists have put out one or two albums they’ve kinda lost their critical praise at pitchfork.
I just RSVP'd for an album signing this weekend, have to buy the album at the store though. Really hoping they have that indie variant in stock!
First listen and I really love this. Nothing blew me away quite as much as Night Shift did the first time I heard it, but the album felt remarkably consistent. Can’t wait to give it more attention later this weekend.
Took off all next week from work so this release will be perfect timing! Honestly I LOVE Hot & Heavy + Brando so I have high expectations for this.
Despite it being one of prettiest records I own, I’m actually pretty disappointed with how this sounds on the turntable. Super noisy and has a lot of that distortion throughout that you normally only hear toward the end of a side. The actual tunes are nice though. About to flip to side B and so far it’s been about as mellow as the singles implied. Cartwheel has been my favorite track yet
