I really like this. She’s such a good lyricist and a solid songwriter. I miss the rock of the first 2 albums but this is still great.
I liked it…didn’t love it, but definitely potential to grow. Her voice is so soothing, it would be nice for a few different tempos. Most Wanted Man and Lost Time a killer way to close the album though. Really good.
my first listen of this was… fine? which is pretty disappointing after how much i loved her first three records. i kind of agree with the pitchfork review that it feels strangely subdued and docile for a record covering which i think is a really beautiful love story. i also think that, while there are plenty of lines and passages that made me feel some shit, there are way more clunky lyrics than i’d expect from her. i expect it to open up more on repeated listens, but i’m feeling underwhelmed right now.
Out of all the boygenius members she’s the one I gravitate towards the least, but I wouldn’t call this boring.
I like this, don’t love it. Feels like it peters out around the Hozier collab and I tuned out a little. The first half of the album is really good though, and I love Talk
Her voice is so good but I’m so bored. On best guess at the moment and it’s the first song I will 100% come back to.
second listen wasn’t any better than the first, sadly. i think about half the album is pretty good and the other half is fine but feels like it’s missing something.
opening up for me a little on third listen. I have never loved any of her solo records in full, and this probably isn't any different for me, but I still think it's Good. her best songs for me are the ones with a little more force so I definitely agree that she seems to be leaning away from her strongest impulses here. I also agree that the production is really detailed and pretty and warrants a more focused listen. the title track is particularly nice in that regard. A lot of the first half is great. I don't really like "Come Out" or "Bullseye." "Talk" rules.
