This article has been imported from chorus.fm for discussion. All of the forum rules still apply. The New York Times: Now, after years of unsubstantiated rumors about Louis C.K. masturbating in front of associates, women are coming forward to describe what they experienced. Even amid the current burst of sexual misconduct accusations against powerful men, the stories about Louis C.K. stand out because he has so few equals in comedy. In the years since the incidents the women describe, he has sold out Madison Square Garden eight times, created an Emmy-winning TV series, and accumulated the clout of a tastemaker and auteur, with the help of a manager who represents some of the biggest names in comedy. And Louis C.K. built a reputation as the unlikely conscience of the comedy scene, by making audiences laugh about hypocrisy — especially male hypocrisy. His movie premiere and upcoming appearances have been canceled. Expand - View Original
I hate seeing this steady stream and knowing that it's likely just the tip of the iceberg. But, I also love this momentum against abusers and hope it continues.
i wouldn't go too fast to call her out, there must have been some reason for her to come back on it, whether it was a fear for career or safety
Why backtrack at all? Why not "no comment"? This piece, allegedly, has been in the works for months. I assume the NYT reached out to Kirkman when the women who were abused decided to come forward. I don't understand. I've been calling Louis out since the initial allegations came out. I posted my in depth thoughts a few days ago before any of this even broke in the film's thread. Obviously not the "bad guy" in this situation, but I'm still baffled.
Women are often threatened into silence by abusive men in positions of power. I don’t know how that hasn’t been made the most clear these past few months. Jen Kirkman is really not the issue.
I really do understand. I just think there's a time for that and I'm not sure that time is today. There could be perfectly understandable reasons.
we don't have enough information into the reasons why she as a woman decided to backtrack. we've seen so many stories from the past month the reasoning why people didn't come forward sooner, i definitely believe it's not for us to judge her for this from what we know. it's hard enough being a woman in the industry in normal situations
A white man in the entertainment industry who routinely and proudly makes raping women a punchline and tweets misogynistic and antisemitic ideals is now being accused of sexual misconduct? Well color me surprised.
rumors of these allegations have been around for years, this is the first time it's actually been sourced. all this article did was confirm what we already knew
Yes, bad wording on my part. We've always known he was garbage. Much respect to them coming forward - it obviously was incredibly difficult.
Which is why I'm at the "what the fuck" stage and not calling for her head. I'm genuinely confused. I completely understand how powerful it was for her to break the story and come forward. And I completely understand why she attempted to distance herself and delete the post after the gossip sites caught wind. I'm just very confused at her explicit statements on record within the last month.
All valid points, my initial post was not well thought out and I've posted my thoughts on Louis more clearly in the other thread(s)
This purge hurts but it's necessary. Let's get it all out now. I hope people come out of the woodworks and tell their similar stories. I hope we kick as many of these people out of the entertainment industry as possible. I wonder who's next though. I've heard some rumors about Jared Leto...
Related: Mariah Carey is being accused of sexual harassment by a former bodyguard. Which, I think, is the first person in the music industry to be brought to light since all of these victims of harassment and assault have come forward. I'm wondering when a similar purge of predators is going to happen with the music industry because I know it's definitely not just happening in the film industry.
Uh .. there's been countless "outings" of horrible people in the music industry and a shitton of them are still playing in bands and signed to record labels or tour managing bands or are big booking agents..
what's hopefully going to happen far more in regards to the music industry that hadn't happened as often before is i expect lots of big time label executives and producers to be the next to fall. it's time for the people in power to fall for the horrible things i expect many of them have done.
A lot of the Louis CK fans I’ve met are misogynists and it turned me off of him from the beginning. Birds of a feather, I guess.
we all know the legal system sucks, the legal system will do nothing to help get horrible men put away. it needs to be a social movement because lawmakers have failed society in this regard
