The line for tickets at Chain this morning is down Lincoln and wrapped around to the Denny's on Euclid. I'm content with the last show I saw there being The Wonder Years.
Oh man The Warehouse. I lived up the street from one. Vivid memories of waiting in line outside and they’d do a lotto to see who was first. Totally fair process.
The building is now a bank, which is sad. Great memories of getting concert tickets, listening to new albums on those sample headphones, renting VHS movies before blockbuster was big in my town, and they had a weird adult video section behind a creepy curtain that my preteen self was quite curious/confused about. Plus it was right next door to an awesome pizza joint so riding my bike there with friends was the perfect pastime. Ahhh nostalgia.
Was supposed to leave early this morning to drive up to my family for the holidays, but my wife and I haven’t left yet because we’re anxious about the storm. What are the roads like out there today?
It's pretty gnarly. We just left and it's going to take us 4hrs to get from Long Beach to Yucca Valley. Ugh.
Oof. Yeah we made the decision to just leave really early tomorrow morning instead. I usually hate doing that, but there’s usually guaranteed no traffic and the drive is like 2 and a half hours instead of the usual 3 and a half
Looks like the real final show at Chain Reaction was last night; a friends and family Chris Conley set doing all of “Through Being Cool” acoustic plus a set of requests and covers. Some videos floating around online from folks who attended.
That month, I went to Piebald, Taken, Say Anything, Days Away, and The Format. Saw some of the best shows ever there including Taking Back Sunday on their first tour opening for Lawrence Arms which was legendary. God I'm gonna miss this place.
A weird thing just happened. I was getting lunch at the grocery store near my work and a guy flagged me down in the parking lot and was like you dropped this $20 bill. I knew it wasn't mine but he still somehow convinced me to check my wallet. But I was insistent it wasn't mine and walked away. I didn't really think much of it, but while I was eating my lunch I got a call from someone who Left a message saying they're with the OC sheriff's office. I thought it was a scam but they called back a couple of times so I was going to waste some of their time. Allegedly they've been investigating this guy for pulling this and stealing people's credit cards when they pull out their wallet. They said they observed the interaction and ran my plates to call and see if I was another victim. It all sounds crazy but she gave me her badge number and info to check up on her. So don't fall for that one and warn your parents. This was in Long Beach and I guess he's been doing it all around here and Orange County.
“In order to investigate this for you, our department needs to verify your identity. What is your—” Stranger snatches your phone out of your hand, hangs it up, and hands it back. “They’re not LO. I am.” You get handed a heavy FBI badge. “And I just ran out of gas down the road. Give me $100 and hold on to this badge as collateral. I’ll be right back—”
He is married to Heidi Montag. They were both on the show The Hills from the early 2000s. He sucks haha.
Lottery sign up to purchase tickets opened today for the LA '28 Olympics. They're doing a bunch of events in Long Beach so we're pretty excited to try to go to a few.
