Depressing getting off work and it’s pitch black and my already insane commute with terrible drivers is now occuring in dark mode with extra blurry high beams everywhere.
idk where else to put this... I go to the Barnes and Noble in Burbank all the time before going to one of the three AMC Theaters in the area, and I used to greet one of the ppl who worked there every time I saw her, she was really nice and very helpful... but I haven't seen her in months. I asked another employee about her while I was checking out, but I felt super awkward like a total creep. Apparently she's on leave and he doesn't know for sure if she'll be coming back. I guess that doesn't really help me much. Ugh that was such a weird interaction. idk if I should've even asked ahhh I feel so embarrassed
I was out of work for 6 months a year ago because I got sick. Honestly if I knew that any of the regulars asked about me I would be soooo happy and touched. Not sure if that helps at all but I think it's a totally fine thing to ask, especially with (I assume) a small staff.
omg i knew i went to the Glendale Galleria a couple years ago before something but i couldn't remember what, and after a long roundabout process of searching google maps for anything from comics shops to concert venues in the area and then finally searching my maps history, i figured out it was this! i didn't have it on my list of concerts i've been to bc it wasn't a big band--no offense--and it's technically not a concert venue. i haven't been to the Galleria since then so i was really confused as to why i had a clear recollection of walking to the Galleria from where I parked a few blocks down but just blanked on where I went after and it was bugging the crap outta me. @Cody sup how you doin
The rumors were true: Chain Reaction is planned for redevelopment by the city of Anaheim. Came up at the most recent city council meeting.
I sat in the back of Chain reading a Skratch magazine while Fall Out Boy was opening up for Spitalfield in 2003. RIP.
That’s such a bummer. I’ve only been to three shows there, but there’s no denying how much of an iconic venue it is. I feel grateful I got to go to at least a few shows since my time living here. R.I.P.
I saw Rocky Votolato there really early on just after his first solo album. I saw Owen/whichever Kinsella brother Owen is get heckled and walk off stage mid-set there. I saw Fear Before the March of Flames go nuts and nearly crack each other’s heads open by flinging their guitars and basses around violently like 3 shows there in a short span of time. I saw Anatomy of a Ghost, who I think somehow turned into Portugal the Man. That FOB, Acceptance, Spitalfield show where FOB were messy as hell. I went to see a Kind of Like Spitting show there and he just didn’t show up without an explanation so I ended up just watching the 3 other bands on the bill. So many EP CDs I bought at the merch table for bands who never did anything else and whose names I can’t remember 20+ years later.
I’ve been in and around the Anaheim area for 20 years now and I’ve seen so many shows there; probably The Wonder Years most out of anyone, but bands like Thursday, NFG, Movielife, Set Your Goals, Reel Big Fish, The Gaslight Anthem, and so many more. It feels like the last of a dying breed because it is - a small room where you’re up close with some of the biggest names in the scene both on the way up and once they’ve arrived. That little shitty stage has seen everyone come through those doors in hopes of tacking a shirt up on the wall. Hopefully something comes along to fill that gap because it’s going to be sorely missed.
I’ve never been there but I can picture the Chain Reaction stage perfectly. I remember watching so many old live punkrockvids videos that were filmed at Chain Reaction.
Dang, I've never been there, that's like nowhere near me. I feel like I'm missing out on a crucial part of LA's music scene. Severe fomo

Maybe the silver lining is that the place is haunted and I’m sure knocking it down to build houses isn’t going to change that.
