I’m trying to plan a trip to la to go to this academy museum of motion picture and get some good food.
Porn capital of the world IDK lol. I live in North Hollywood and I've never ventured out in that direction. Valley's a big place, I really should just drive around one day
Anyone else getting crushed by the Santa Ana winds right now? In the valley and it's baaaaad. Power went out for a bit earlier; my poor cat is currently trying to get out onto the balcony while screaming at the wind
Not sure if anyone’s around December 10th, but one of the bands I play with is headlining the Troubadour with a pretty great local lineup. This is rescheduled from March 30, 2020 so we’re all really excited to finally get to play. It’s be rad to get to meet some Chorus people!
Seriously considering renting an old-school VW van this summer and taking a 1-2 week solo road trip up/down the PCH in July, staying at different surfing/camping spots and doing as much photography as possible. Round trip flight tix from Norway to LA are in the $850 range as well, which is pretty cheap. And I found a place to rent high-end camera lenses in LA too, which is awesome (otherwise, the one I want to use is like $2,800 to buy, lol)
This is who I'm renting from; they have a whole fleet of VW's to choose from, especially if you're just looking at a few days for a trip https://www.vwsurfari.com/
Well, according to the policies portion of their site, I found that for this particular type of van I'm renting (the oldest model in their fleet), they don't really want me going farther north than Santa Barbara. But I think I might try getting up to Morro Bay or Big Sur, which aren't that much farther north. But there's so much to see and explore from those places and south to San Diego, that I won't need to go any further north. They don't want me driving more than 100-120 miles a day as well (up to that amount free; anything more and I pay), so they'll probably tally the total amount of miles I drive when I return at the end of the trip, see how many I drive more than 1,400 miles (14 days x 100 miles), and charge each extra mile at a set rate (like 39 cents a mile or something).
Does anybody have a cool spot for viewing the city, or an awesome landscape in the LA area, that maybe isn't listed on official lists you find online? I'm going to be doing a lot of photography during my two weeks though, so any and all suggestions for cool stuff to photograph would be appreciated
Kenneth Hahn recreation area is “the” spot from where those iconic DTLA photos are taken. Idk how crowded it is from day to day. Taking mulholland up from cahuenga over the Hollywood bowl is another great eyeline to DTLA with the 101 in the foreground. The old zoo in Griffith park is usually pretty low key and neat. Depending on the lunar cycle I love going to see the moon set over the ocean. I like to go to the end of Jefferson in playa del Rey behind the shack. There’s a park with easy beach access there.
The one by Playa Provisions. That park right there has tons of parking and it’s just hidden enough to not be swamped all the time. It can get swamped but it’s my go to spot and usually works out.
Just around the basketball courts/ baseball field. I’m usually always avoiding weekends so maybe that’s why I’m having good luck?
