Listening to Solar Power this weekend had me revisiting this monster of rock from the 2nd Natalie Imbruglia album:
Very interesting article about more technical musical aspects of this album and Lorde's music in general. Worth a read even if you don't like the album Why Lorde’s 'Solar Power' Is a Pop Oddity
I've listened to this a time or two a day since Friday and I'm really enjoying it. A year or two ago I don't think I would've been into it as much for various reasons, but for where I'm at in life as of late it's really resonating. The more I listen the more I find on the production side to enjoy as well as much as that's been panned. For as immediately recognizable the "vibe" of the record is, there does seem to be a lot of subtlety layered in and repeat listens feel rewarding for lack of a better word. I would've loved Melodrama Pt II, but I'm growing more appreciative of this each day.
Cool article. Definitely been a lynchpin in her songwriting arsenal for quite some time, even before Jack {though he uses it a ton too (Who I want You To Love, Nothing is U, Born To Bleed, Gold Rush)}. Thanks for sharing!
FINALLY got around to listening to the album, started a new job so it's been stressful. On first listen I absolutely understand why people wouldn't like it lol. I enjoy it, outside of the singles I dig Fallen Fruit, Secrets from a Girl, and Dominoes, but it's definitely not as immediate sounding as her other stuff especially Melodrama. It's the type of album that I'm not sure if I would want another from her of, but I appreciate that she went for it here. Definitely gonna give it some more listens.
Finally giving this a listen. It's not bad. I think its pretty good actually. Not as good as her last two records, but its interesting and enjoyable.
I wake up with a song from this in my head pretty much every day. The only two that haven't completely landed for me are The Man with The Axe and Leader of a New Regime. I don't think they're bad, but I also can't even really remember how they go off the top of my head. Other than that, I'm really happy with how much I'm enjoying this.
why does everyone think there’s a part two coming every time an artist records songs that don’t make the final cut?
After about 10 uninterrupted listens through - there are a few songs that don’t do anything for me but most of it I find myself really digging. The Path, Solar Power, and Fallen Fruit I am vibing harddd to. I like the first half more than second.
Hmm ok I might like Leader of a New Regime now it kind of hit on this listen. I wish it had a seamless transition into Mood Ring though because when Mood Ring does start I get very hyped
