This is apparently a hot take but I overall enjoyed this album. No it's not as good as Melodrama but if you don't compare it to one of the best albums of the 2010s it's a solid very chill album.
I definitely get why people don’t like this, and it’s easily the worst of her 3 records but I really liked this! Can see myself spending a lot of time with it
I check this thread for the first time in weeks and people are defending Jack Johnson. I’m checking back out.
glad she followed her muse and all but I found this hard to listen to at points. like the run from tracks 7-10 honestly don't sound finished to me
It's far and away my favorite Jack release of the year haha, which unfortunately is such a low bar right now... Sigh
I’ll give it some time but this is most likely gonna be the only release from her I don’t like. If people are talking about the back half sucking… I listened to the front half and it sucks too lol
It’s a yes from me. I get why not everyone loves it and if you didn’t like the singles the album isn’t going to change your mind, but I really enjoy it. Its a nice switch up for her, and I think I’ll only like it more as I become more familiar with it and the songs differentiate themselves more. There’s more than enough cool moments on each one that they set themselves apart, even if the whole thing has a similar vibe. Mood Ring really goes off in a different way after hearing the whole album. It feels like such a release. The Path, Fallen Fruit, Dominoes, and Oceanic Feeling are the other highlights on first listen. Can’t wait to dive in more tomorrow and the rest of the summer/year.
Hmm. Well, it’s not bad… Really enjoyed the first half for the most part, but I’ll echo the sentiments that tracks 7-10 don’t really do anything for me at all. Would have actually respected an eight-track album with those four just cut out, haha. But maybe those feelings will change, just my immediate reaction. Haven’t heard the bonus tracks yet though, and heard they’re good.
Yeah I don't think this album is for me. I did like The Path, Fallen Fruit, and The Man With The Axe though. The latter makes me think I would love hearing her over more overtly ambient stuff.
For what it's worth, this is getting great reviews in the UK Lorde: Solar Power review – waking up from the nightmare of fame
Just for a drive in the sunshine with this - It feels a bit slight but pretty Can see it being a grower - On first listen I liked but expecting more on subsequent listens
Lol I like this who said the second half was far lesser than the first half? the run of “Dominoes”, “Big Star” and “Leader of a New Regime” is magical. The worst part is that these are the 3 shortest songs on the record.
