I think it's more for the artists at this point. Like, if I could have a Grammy on my shelf, I think I'd be pretty stoked. But in terms of like "oh wow, this album is Grammy nominated? it must be amazing!" that isn't very accurate anymore, for sure.
only the popularity, based on a specific panel. Definitely not based on national popularity, charts or anything like that
Whereas the Oscars are still mostly (I think?) based on artistic merit, Grammys are based on how popular artists are with a certain set of people.
I have little faith in the Grammys. Just a fun prediction. Occasionally they award an album based on massive critical acclaim alone (which is why I could see Fiona Apple winning since acclaim for her record has been insane). And I could see Lorde having both the critical acclaim and popularity for her next record. Kendrick winning is just wishful thinking at this point. I don’t have much respect for the Grammys but I can’t pretend it isn’t satisfying to see them get it right because it’s such good publicity for the artist. I have friends who wouldn’t have known who Kacey Musgraves was before she won album of the year.
https://reverb.com/news/interview-frank-ocean-producer-malay-on-making-albums-in-a-singles-era What are some projects that you have going on right now? Is there anything you can share that'll be coming out soon? “I don't know about how soon, but I've been heavily on the new Lorde project. Before the madness started, I'd been going to New Zealand a lot. I met her on the 25th hour of Melodrama, the last album, and I ended up working on a bunch of the songs. She was already to the point where I think they might have even felt like they were done, and then she was like, You know what, it's not ready, and called in a bunch of people to just try different things and throw different things at it. We just happened to connect, and she liked my ideas of what I was bringing to the table. So this time we actually started from zero together, which is really unique and fun. But like I said, she's another one of those, like a Frank Ocean, where she has an insane vision, and she is not going to compromise whatsoever. So that's why I said it could be some time, especially because of the pandemic, and she's in New Zealand.”
Lorde: The Blackbird Spyplane Interview Blackbird Spyplane: Ella, first off, let’s GIVE THE D*MN FANS A TREAT— what are you telling ppl who wanna know when they’re going to hear new music from you? Lorde: “I’m telling people that something is taking shape. More than ‘taking shape’ — something is — there’s a thing. But, you know, I really take my time, and I like to know the whole universe, the whole cinematic universe for what I’m making, so I’m in that process right now. I don’t know how much more I want to say. It’s such a kooky year in terms of knowing anything about timing, but I guess with me, as an artist generally, no one ever knows when anything’s coming anyway…”
