"Now you know it's really gonna blow... Booooom" and then back into the chorus. I can't get enough of that little part. Really this album just has so many small moments like that, it's just exciting to listen to every time.
Yeah, the small moments like that are really what this even more rewarding. Having just watched Jack Antonoff's little feature on the making of Goodmorning, and how much he loves things like that, I have to think he pushed for them quite a bit. They're just these great little unique and memorable intricacies. I think it was the Uproxx article that mentioned that Lorde barely whispers "baby" at 3:41-3:42 of Hard Feelings, and it just puts a whole new spin on the song for me. It's one of those things that is so tiny that you doubt if it's actually even there, but it also has the power to put a whole new perspective on the tune. So cool.
Her Glastonbury set is up online on iPlayer and I presume YouTube by now, if anyone cares. It's fucking great
Lorde Earns First No. 1 with Melodrama | Pitchfork "The latest from the New Zealand pop star reached the top spot with 109,000 album equivalent units sold, 82,000 of those units being traditional album sales."
I still havent recieved my preorder even though it was suppose to be here on Friday (23rd) and i need it badly.
Very cool and well-deserved. They were smart by selling that merch that came with a digital copy of the album. An easy automatic album sale.
I'm definitely thinking this is the album to beat for me in 2017. I'm just so enamored with it. It works so well as a full album experience; whenever I hear Green Light, even out of context, I want to listen to everything through Perfect Places. Paramore is still in hot contention for the number one slot, but I really think i have to give the edge to Lorde.
Apparently it's going to be a while. Have heard different expected delivery dates. Mine was due on Friday, as well.
If anyone is able to drive and not start dancing when "But I hear sounds in my mind" kicks in, there's a good chance you're not human.
I was pretty neutral on her stuff before this, but finally got to listen to Melodrama from start to finish yesterday and I am absolutely in love with this record. One of the best pop albums I've heard in years and I don't think there's a bad song on here. Can't wait to further dissect the little things, but this is quickly finding its place in my AOTY list.
I've heard a lot of records so far that I know will land top 20, even top 10/5, but this record is the first one that is the clear frontrunner for AOTY. This is the album to beat!
I think I know why this album is hitting so hard with me - because it's hitting so close to home. Long story short, a year ago I split up with a fairly long time girlfriend, and I went a little crazy for about 9 months or so, totally self destructing, drinking way too much, out every weekend. That's the story of this album, to me. It starts with a relationship ending, then it goes through every feeling and emotion I've felt for the last year.
