I saw Star Wars. I thought it was decent. In theory, it is exactly what I want from a Star Wars movie; one that says "fuck you" and subverts the expectations of what a Star Wars movie could be. However, I felt that it really got lost within itself and meandered about in meaningless plotlines that ultimately didn't lead anywhere fulfilling. I didn't think it was bad, didn't think it was great, just kinda messy. I like the concept of the movie a lot, but the execution falls somewhat flat for me. Also, some of the humor was pretty cringey, especially in that opening scene. I don't mind humor in a Star Wars movie, but I felt that 90% of the humor that was there was simply to check something off of a list mandated by Disney, and not because it was a natural part of the scene. Pretty good/10, but not prettyy pretttyyyyy prettyyyyyyyyy good/10, ya know? I'm more disappointed as a Rian Johnson than as a Star Wars fan.

I also felt that the throne room scene with Kylo and Rey was fantastic. But I wish they would teamed up instead of what we got. It would have pushed the series in much more interesting directions that would make me crave sequel. It wouldn't have worked with Kylo's current motivations, but if they tweaked his thoughts from "fuck the 1st order and fuck the resistance, let us two take over" to simply "fuck them both, let's not be a part of it," that could have been really exciting. Having it just go back to Kylo/1st Order vs Rey/Resistance, is a little boring to me.

 

I think it’s important to the future of the story, show how incompetent Kylo is a leader, consumed with power and a desire for respect. I can almost bet that IX will show how reckless and immature he is as a leader.

 

I get that, but it’s boring to me :/

TFA ends with “okay Kylo is an immature manchild who is out to get Rey and end the Resistance” and TLJ ends with “okay Kylo is an immature manchild who is out to get Rey and end the Resistance.” We are almost in the same spot. Now, I’m not saying I’d expect Kylo to do a full turn around, he’d definitely fuck things up I’m sure. But I’d much rather see that transpire tbh

Also, what did nerds hate so much? The force Luke thing at the end?

 

Honestly, I think it boils down to people not getting what they wanted. People wanted their two year old fan fiction ideas to become true, so they got mad when it didn’t happen. Personally, I loved the ending shot with Luke. It was a beautiful ending to his story that mirrored his beginnings in A New Hope, it honestly rivals the emotional impact of that scene in said movie. It also fits the overall theme of the movie, you have to let go of the past to move forward.

I was so excited when TFA came out but every damn thing I've read about TLJ makes me go "meh"

Probably gonna see it tomorrow instead of going to the office for the whole day, honestly...although my email stopped working and it won't take my password, so maybe they've fixed the glitch. It's really the only reason I'm going in tomorrow, to get email access back.

 

I can't even tell you guys how amazing it has been to take the Ron Livingston attitude from Office Space with my current job (that's ending soon I assume). The last shred of fuck given disappeared when the HR department emailed me something addressed to my birth name and not my now very much legal first name. THE HR DEPARTMENT.

Seriously, it's fucking awesome. I might wear a t-shirt and jeans with some sneakers tomorrow. Perhaps even a GRAPHIC TEE woowoowowow
