the amount of paper waste my office generates out of convenience/luxury is maddening and i'm barely environmentally conscious

 

Theres a whole section dedicated to getting all of our state records into our online database to prevent printing paper. But then, we'll have like a holiday decorating contest and people will print 1000s of pages, literally for no reason but to decorate. It's pretty dumb and ironic.

 

Yeah my office prints everything and there's no recycling. People will email me something and then print it and bring it to me

yep, it's a joke. there was a small internal meeting that ran about 30 minutes, and i was asked to print about 300 pages of material per person knowing full well almost none it it will be referenced. a lot of "just in case" prep around here that winds up being nothing but wasteful.

there's no recycling? there is no reason that should even be legal imo

 

my previous job was with NYS Environmental Protection Bureau so it is night and day

 

We use Salesforce so everything should be online. Instead people will print an email and bring it to me which is both wasteful and slow

 

My job IS with the Department of Environmental Protection right now

Every permit manager's files will be online and they still will print everything out. They don't wanna learn how to use the database (which is incredibly simple).

 

I'm the only one who recycles at my job, well I bring stuff home to recycle

wtf? if you ask me, if you don't have recycling, you aren't up to code. i literally would have never believed there was an office without recycling until chase mentioned it. smdh

 

It really sucks. We throw away so much paper. People hand me things I literally look at for ten seconds and have no further use for

My company is super horrible too. We use tons of material to have things ship from dallas to Ohio, they unpackage it and process it there and reship it out with new materials from there and they do not reuse the materials from the first shipments. On one end we our an estate sale company so we do work with donation and keeping things from being in a dump but also....we do not donate things properly. We end up throwing away tons of stuff. We just started partnering with a shelter to come in and take canned goods, toilet paper, detergent, cleaning supplies, etc so that’s good at least.

We used like 90 lbs of wrapping paper and 60 boxes for one sale and it all just got thrown out once it went to ohio. Makes no sense.

 

And the one when the boat is goin' down and DeCaprio is like "Hasta la vista, baby". Made me tear right up.
