i just found out that as of January 31, 2018 i will be either:

• let go from my current gig
• brought on full-time and given a raise (ancient civil service laws make this unlikely)
• placed somewhere else entirely

contract work is fun. bring it on, i haven't had a single gap in employment since i was 16.

they're basically opening up a bidding war between contractors to leverage them into asking for less money from the state. i've been on the hireable list (with a great fucking score) for two years. if it doesn't work out i'll take it as a sign state work isn't meant to be and re-enter the hiring pool with a bad ass resume and use this crazy "networking" thing i've actually accomplished doing!

 

what kind of work do you do for the state?

 

administrative support. a lot of Microsoft Office kung fu and record keeping.

 

yeah pretty much what I do then! we're task twins! aw

also if you can find openings in local gov't for admin support or really anything you should look into that. small office environment, typically less soul draining than state work, etc.
