i've got a weird relationship with sexual assault. when my sister was 16, she came home from a concert and told my parents she had been raped in the restroom. idk how old i was, probably 7 or 8. the first time i heard the word "rape" was sitting on my porch with my dad while cops came to collect a report on the situation. my sister would go on to develop eating disorders and get into speed in high school and almost died in senior year of taking it before a cheerleading meet and performing dehydrated in the Texas summer sun. her fever ran to some terrifying number and she was in bed for two weeks.

when i first started dating my ex of 4 or 5 years, we were on a pull-out couch in the basement of her friend's house after a party. at first she seemed to be really looking for sex but as i actually went for it i saw the slightest bit of hesitation and went cold and froze and backed off and told her all this. (i really know how to set a mood, i know).

two years ago my other sister confided in me that my older sis had never actually been raped, that she lied about it because she was pregnant and was terrified of the consequences, or that my parents wouldn't cosign an abortion if it were known to be consensual.

so i actually don't know a rape victim, but the thought that i did colored my whole life and i have a very complicated relationship with it.
