I think it's okay to love animals more than humans in the sense of like "Yes my pet matters this much to me, I care for it a lot" but not in the sense of like, putting it over the abuse of another person

i get this, but am bothered by it in a broad sense because i think i would largely be lumped into the 35% at first glance. i, to the total shock and awe of this thread, really love my cats. when i was a kid we fostered pets, i think our peak being 3 dogs and 5 cats at once, and it was huge in developing my sense of responsibility and compassion as a person. i'm the only person i know that takes my animals to the vet for routine checkups instead of just when something is wrong.

i don't take umbrage with your categorization or feel it is directed at me in any way, i guess i'm just saying that animals have expanded my emotions and allowed me to care more for my fellow man.

I think there's a wide spectrum that can be associated with loving your pets, and I don't think you fall into what I'm talking about on the 35%. You mention that it helps expand your emotions and care more for your fellow man, but what I'm referring to are people who think pets are above fellow people and put them on a pedestal while treating other people like trash in comparison to their pet, idk how to word it right.

 

It makes me so sad that so many don't do this, it's seriously like the bare minimum of pet ownership

i agree completely. there is so much that can be wrong with a cat that a cat wouldn't care about lol. they have fragile little respiratory systems and they poop in a box of dust for crying out loud.

 

Like when I had my cat I definitely treated him with love and as someone who was like a child to me but it's not like I treated him at the exact same level as my actual child and prioritized them the same

If my child and my cat were both being held at gunpoint you better believe I'd rescue my child first
