I don't want to buy a place. Way too much for upkeep, ties you down, etc.

I pay $1025 for a 3 bed/1 bath house. Also has a converted garage in the back, and a storage unit. Wrap around deck patio and huge backyard. On a dead end with tons of privacy.

Rent isn't cheap in Dallas, but if you look around a little and don't live in the center of the city, you can do okay. I was paying almost as much for a 1 bedroom apartment before.

I'm paying $600 plus utilities a month for a small piece of dick room in a 3 bedroom apartment that I share with people. This is cheap compared to the Bay Area where I couldn't afford to move out cause most rooms were $800+ but now I feel like I'm just getting robbed lol

i pay like nothing for rent. granted my building is older but honestly its not that bad and id rather pay less and have an okay place than use a lot of money up on something that isnt permanent. id rather put more away to own eventually. i split it with a roommate its a 2 bd/2 bath and its 1070 so my half is 535. thats the good thing about denton. its so much more affordable cause theres a lot of older units and homes opposed to a lot in DFW area is all giant super new complexes with crazy amenities thats like 1200 for 650 sq ft.

yeah! funny thing is that i may have mentioned: i lived there for three and a half years starting in 2011, then moved in with my now ex for two. my old roommate stayed, and i was still on the lease, so i moved back in when the relationship went boom. when we moved in 6 years ago, Troy was a shit pit and our rent was $750. it's still imperfect but much much better. the landlords have been awesome and only ever raised it $45 once last year. we will prob never leave lol.
it's weird. 3 of the bedrooms are tiny, and one of them is the biggest room in the place, so we use that fourth bigger room as our living room. the ACTUAL living room is right by the front door and you can hear whatever we're doing in there out in the hall because of the acoustics, so we use that as a mudroom/coat room and we have a table we'll set up in there for game nights and stuff. i occupy one of the other three bedrooms, as does my roommate and his girlfriend, and the last bedroom is catbox/cat food/cat tree/cat lounge. they get a bunch of windows and light in there and adore it.

It's really really bad. Oakland, which used to be relatively affordable, is being gentrified left and right so everyone is getting displaced and now it's almost comparable to living in SF. San Francisco is actually unlivable lol. I lived in Alameda, which is right next Oakland, and was working 45+ hours a week, in a management position, and I could not afford to move out.

Yeah an hour an episode is long for me, though I can do it when the season is short, especially if I'm watching with someone

funny story: when i first moved into this place, it was with my friend Josh. he moved out to move to CA and work for Lily Robotics, an upstart tech company that made huge waves with their kickstarter for an autonomous drone:

Lily's selfie drone racks up $34 million in pre-orders

Sounds awesome, right? Fast forward to exactly one year later:

Drone Startup Abruptly Shuts Down Despite $34 Million in Pre-Orders

he basically went totally broke in a shack for a year for a company run by recent undergrad graduates. he came back with ruined credit for life and a deep depression.

i guess that story wasn't funny.

Yeah and sometimes after a long day I just can handle shorter shows where I don't really have to think much lol. I save longer dramas for the weekends

Oh my god, nooo! That's awful. My friend who lives in SF just quit his position at a VR company. Made good money but was overworked and always depressed lol. Not worth it.

Oh, wow! I didn't realize it was possible to find something so cheap in NY. Are you just very lucky, or is that common in upstate?

i was lucky to move into a very shitty city just before it got good. when i was looking at other places in October, i looked at one on the same block that was $800 for one bedroom. i got very lucky although a lot of stuff in Troy is still v affordable
