Didn't they get a discounted rate on the rooms for blocking the wedding there? When I worked for Marriott, we always would give blocked rooms at the same, discounted rate for a wedding party or event. You could sign up for their rewards program, hotels typically give discounted rates to rewards members... but I'm sure you knew that already.

 

i mostly ranted to henry and moved on. and blocked quite a few people on twitter.

i'm imagining a discounted rate at the hyatt is still out of my 12 hours of work a week budget.

 

If my job started at like ten I'd be more ok with it. Id also be ok with giving puppies belly rubs

 

Call and see what it is. I'm surprised the wedding party didn't announce the nightly rate at the hotel. But if you call, they'll give you the rate and it should be lower than the ADR (average daily rate) since they're taking up a significant portion of the hotel. Joining the rewards program would be another option, as rates are typically discounted for members. You could compare that rate to the group rate and see which is lower. Other than that, the only thing I can think of are the promotional emails hotels will send out from time to time when you are a member of the rewards program... maybe you'd get lucky and that hotel will have a good discount, but that's a total crapshoot.

yeah, i was thinking of seeing if my dad has a hyatt rewards card or something. hoping one of the other unmarriedd groomsmen wants to split a room.

my best friend and his fiance are both in med school so they're super behind on wedding planning things (we still haven't rented tuxes for a wedding in 9 weeks, for example). as such, her parents, who both make six figures, are then making a lot of decisions for them and it's like "the hyatt? really?" but it also makes sense. my buddy wanted a ~$10k wedding...her parents have spent almost $40k thus far. he said he'd be furious if he was paying for it, but as he's not he's just trying to not get annoyed with them pulling power moves.

 

yeah. and ironically people championing this be a nicer community than ap.

Yeah wedding planning is stressful and worrying about how to pay for it makes it even more so. I'm getting married in November and, almost luckily for us, my fiancé is a teacher so by necessity we have to wait at least until summer 2019 to take our honeymoon (because she can't take off that many days in a row during the school year). So we won't be spending that money until we've had some more time to save at least.

 

I need an album to listen to that is going to blow me out of the water. Maybe change my life a little. Something I can relate too.

 

Don't even get me started on wedding planning. I'm about to say screw that and elope.
