Music doesn't make me sad at all. I listen to sad music almost every day and I'm fine

Exactly! Whereas a song that might have mediocre (but still flowing with the music) lyricism but the saddest chords imaginable can be wrecking

I'll have to listen to that! I just relistened to We Cool the other day and how Jeff can sing some of the lyrics he does is beyond me, he'll wear his heart on his sleeve till he fuckin dies

I think it's their best. ND is fantastic and has lots of great songs, but CE is the most Thursday has sounded like Thursday in my ears. They are tight musically, have a concise sound, and the lyrics are as poignant as ever. There's a clear maturation in the lyrics and song writing from FC & WATT which I really enjoy, but CE maintains that raw energy. There's a more atmospheric sound on that album, that is clearly derived from the experimentation they did with ACBTLD, but it's harnessed into a more concise sound. That album just does everything for me. Time's Arrow and Circuits of Fever are probably my two favorite songs on the album. Not to say that Beyond the Visible Spectrum and You Were the Cancer aren't incredible, they are, but there's restraint/maturity and atmosphere in those songs that early Thursday really lacked.

Xiu Xiu is definitely very different, I'd recommend the Always album as far as an upbeat (mostly) album with devastating lyricism, or the song "Hello From Eau Claire" which is extremely upbeat and the lyrics start out very somewhat-jokingly and turn into a heartwrenching mess

Xiu Xiu is definitely an exception to the "lyrics don't affect me much" rule hahaha

But yeah I feel like I can see completely through Jeff, he's so blatantly open and I feel like he's made me live days in his shoes just from how minute his details are

I very casually listen to A Crow Looked at Me. It was a heartbreaking first listen, but now I just love the music so much that I put it on a steady rotation. Contact and Timothy by As Cities Burn are probably the two songs that have legitimately made me cry. Also Sleep by Godspeed You! Black Emperor was a very emotional first listen, and that doesn’t even have lyrics. The music is just so damn depressing and apocalyptic

I connect with music and lyrics on a personal level. Please see "All too Well" by Taylor Swift. And yes there is a scarf involved in my personal story, lol.

But that's just it, all music is "emo". Its all emotional. the label 'emo' on some bands just makes me mad. Like who cares. If the songs and the music make you feel something...anything...its because of human emotions.

Like Band of Horses. Some of their songs are just rip your heart out and run it over with an 18 wheeler emo. And I fucking love it.

@electro haikus I hope you've listened to their split with Envy. An Absurd and Unrealistic Dream of Peace is my favorite Thursday song period. It's essentially a Common Existence B-side.
