I was just talking about how sweet game show hosts have it. Shoot like 10 episodes a day for a few days a month and then do whatever you want with all the rest of your time

Learn to maximize the flavor you get out of a few key spices and herbs. Salt, pepper, dried thyme, dried oregano, crushed red pepper, ground cumin, and ancho chili powder would be a great start. You can put thyme in most dishes. We regularly make turkey tacos with a lettuce “tortilla” and we make pork chops, salmon filets, “burgers” (no buns and in a sauce), and chicken breasts. We buy a bunch of frozen veggies and some fresh ones. Then pair a protein with the veggie we feel like having. The best thing I can tell you is to start with a simple thing like a chicken breast. I buy the individually wrapped ones and freeze them. It’s easy to pull out 1 or 2 and cook them. I always have onions and garlic on hand too. If I wanted to make a simple dinner with chicken and green beans, I’d start by searing the chicken. When the chicken is done, I’ll put it on the side and add half of a finely diced onion and saute that in the same pan. If I have mushrooms or peppers or capers or whatever I have on hand, I can add those with the onions and cook them all together. Then i’ll deglaze with the wine or brandy or sherry (depending on the flavor I want), and scrape the bottom of the pan to get all the brown bits into the liquid. Then i’ll add some chicken stock and cook the sauce until it reduces to a nice consistency. I order 12 packs of chicken stock from amazon in 8 oz containers. Perfect for a use with dinner like this. If the sauce needs help thickening, make a slurry with some cornstarch and water and add that to the sauce. A tsp and a splash of water should suffice. Season with salt and pepper every step of the way. The great thing about this is you can make chicken picatta by adding some vermouth, capers, and lemon, or you can make chicken marsala by addinng marsala, mushrooms, and onions, or you can go mexican or whichever direction you feel. Master cooking the chicken and continue experimenting with sauces and you’ll have lots of options for dinner with just a few ingredients. And it all comes together in 30 minutes or less. I buy partially dried herbs like parsley and chives and they are a really terrific way to finish your meal. Only add those at the very end.

I know that’s a lot, so if you have any questions don’t hesitate to ask. You said you’re an inexperienced cook, so I wanted to be helpful but not go into too much or too little detail. Making a simple pan sauce is a great way to elevate your cooking from okay or good to great or better. Most people don’t know how to make a sauce, so you can really impress people with something really simple.

first off, thanks for taking the time to type this out for me! really appreciate it. I'll copy and paste this into a doc for future reference. i'll buy some chicken breasts this week and try my hand at that, that seems like it offers the most versatility while learning how to do this stuff. irt sauce and spices and what have you, do you always add those at the end, with the meal? i've been trying to add spices and stuff in the beginning when i make rice, but for whatever reason it never seems to take. I use a multicooker to make my rice, and i suppose something about steaming it keeps it from retaining those flavors? i've even tried over using stuff, like salt or olive oil or something, to see if that would help, but that doesn't seem to work either. my only conclusion is i have to flavor it afterwards if im steaming it, but i keep forgetting to look that up myself and usually whatever meat i pair it with is flavorful enough to offset that for me.

    Harsh.

I've just been very busy at work recently with it being end of the year and such.

Truth though, my wife questioned my hygiene habits when we first met because of how I looked so this isn't far off
She'd actually like it if I did it more often. I get cold easily though :(

    I love Frozen alot.

I'd say I'm more into Animated movies than I am adult cartoons. I still find I've geared towards kids enjoyable though.

    That's what I'm saying.

    I barely shave my face
    Love Steve as the host

I don’t have a multicooker. I make my rice on the stove and all I will put in there is a healty pinch of salt. I’ll flavor rice after I cook it. For example, if you wanted to mimic the rice at chipotle, take the cooked rice and dump it in a bowl and add lime juice and chopped cilantro and fold it to combine. Folding is very gentle stirring with big strokes so that you keep the integrity of whatever you’re mixing. Or if you wanted to make fried rice, put it in a hot pan with lots of butter and cooked peas and carrots and add seasoning etc. What spices and things do you want to add to your rice?
