so, pointless rant with no payoff ahead:

yesterday, i got a facebook message from a girl i was very close with in high school, who is now my friend's fiancee. they're the ones i had that awful d&d night with and it got awkward and racist and awkward. the message was a link to a facebook video a kid we went to school with posted of himself rapping for 4 or 5 minutes.

now, to be clear: it is horrible. terrible, terrible, Nathan For You cutting room floor levels of too much cringe. it literally could not have been worse. but the kid posted it. publicly, took a risk. this guy was bullied relentlessly in high school. i'd say i was one of the nicer ones to him and even i was not good to him and regret it immensely and have spent the last 10 years making an effort to be very nice whenever i get the stray weird facebook comment from him.

but the video had 800 views after a couple of hours, 130 comments, and one like. all of the comments were kids i went to school with being absolute pieces of shit. tagging practically their entire friends lists to come watch and poke fun. it's been shared publicly by 6 people, and in private groups by many others. people who have never met the kid are tearing him apart over it. one girl, who i only know for leaving her baby in the care of wasted strangers so she could leave a party and get laid when she was 18, was the actual worst. total scum.

the dude has disadvantages. i'm not comfortable with assuming he has any full blown conditions/deficiencies, but he is less equipped than the average person. he's got an overbite, a goofy voice, the kind of kid that was pinned to be the butt of jokes for eternity by age 7. he's dealt with that life for 20 fucking years, and 10 years removed from school life, his peers still can't find anything better to do than bring him down, and i want to fucking tear them apart.

 

I have seen too many doctors/medical people the last 36 hours.

i wouldn't be able to blame anyone for making fun of it in private. it is problematic (in a naive sheltered white person way) and unfathomably bad, the kind of thing that i would die convinced was a bit if i hadn't experienced the context. but the amount of total hatred being flung at him in the comments is the stuff that will fuck someone up for life. a bunch of strangers are harassing his mom via text, sending death threats to him... i can't believe it all

I know i'm prolly gettin' sushi later. So I can eliminate that. There are so many more options though...

 

he's prob an hour away, if i had a car this would be something i could really look at.

 

i should at least reach out to him. i commented on the post in his defense but not to him directly.

i commented against the worst of them, and blocked her immediately following, and my roommate said it achieved the effect of sending her into an embarrassing rage. i called her a sad, bitter, toxic person and let that be that.
