A lot of cool things about this movie but man the story really falls apart. I tried to ignore the hype but it was hard not to expect at least some kind of decent landing in the third act. I am done taking early reviews with any seriousness.
This has had longer legs than I thought it would. The more I think about it, the creepier it gets, and it really hinges on how Longlegs himself hovers over the whole film from beginning to the end. The more I sit with and revisit Nic Cage's performance, the more it works. I used to have nightmares that were strange enough to be pretty funny when I'd tell them to someone the next day, but then immediately they'd be scary again when I'd go to bed the next night. This movie really captures that feeling for me in a way I've not seen before.
I had a nightmare about this before it was even out and the movie pretty much recreated the exact same feeling. this thing really got under my skin lol
I do like the Susprisa comparisons yall mentioned above, I just wish the final confrontation at the house was bigger like the ending of Susprisa. Feels like it builds to that, then that scene lands too softly.
I loved Cage in this but unfortunately, the more I think about it, the less I like it. Arcadian might be the superior 2024 Cage horror film
This was good but I had higher hopes. It was beautifully shot and acted though, and I plan on re-watching. But we did a double feature and saw Oddity right after. Much preferred the latter tbh.
The opening scene only shows his eyes at the bottom of the frame: "Oh.. but it seems I sat on my long butt today." Then he stands up. Title screen.
So I thought this was bad. Unfortunately. Glad it’s doing well though. But man, wtf, didn’t like Cage (who I think is a generational talent) or Monroe here. The story is so thin and ends up having to rely on really bad tropes to drag itself to the finish line. Maybe the worst movie I’ve seen this year? felt more like a True Detective movie special than any of the better movies it wants to be. I did like the shot of her sleeping on the red carpet with the case files. The framing a clear nod to The Shining, which I’m a sucker for.
