It's common in kpop to just group things into lines. BTS has seven members, three of whom are rappers and four of whom are singers, so they make up the "rap line" and the "vocal line." The strongest dancers are referred to as the "dance line," j-hope is basically BTS' dance captain.

I've been to Lolla before but don't remember exactly what stages were where. Is it going to be doable to watch green day and then go watch most of denzel and make it back for the last bit of green day?

 

Should be possible. The stage names have changed since I last went, but assuming Green Day is on the south main stage, Perry's (where Denzel is playing) is on the same side of the park.

Hell yeah, that makes that conflict a little less brutal and if I'm enjoying GD enough (which likely will happen) I will probably stay and then hopefully see Denzel sometime this fall anyway

 

Ya main stage to Perry's is probably the most ideal situation for trying to catch two artists. Perry's is like alongside the main stage to the side, if you stay on the right side of Green Day, you'll be able to get over there in under 5 minutes

 

I wish I could afford to go and see j-hope, this is so exciting for him. Shouldn't have read the responses on the announcement though, so tired of people dismissing him (and the others) because it's BTS or because it's kpop. As if kpop is even really a genre. It's fine if his music isn't for you, but don't just see that he's in BTS and immediately decide you don't like it. Also lmao at the idea of j-hope being a "bad boy"

 

Imagine going to see Lorna Shore and BTS in the same festival. 2022 is wild.

 

If I were going, it'd be for j-hope, Turnstile, Dashboard Confessional, Manchester Orchestra, and Green Day.

 

You can usually tell who has never heard any of BTS' music (or just heard "Dynamite") based on what they think BTS is like. Seeing a bit of that, but not that surprised about it. I chuckled at Hobi being the "bad boy" too!

 

K Pop is a valid genre, it’s just inherently cheesy to me. That BTS performance at the Grammys just felt cringe.

Granted, I know nothing about the individual members, but as a pop stan I just can’t get into it. The 88Rising set at Coachella was enough for me to understand it wasn’t for me.

Lolla was smart leaning into something that could move tickets though. They’re having their worst sales ever prior to this addition.

 

I will be honest, if they book Blackpink I will be euphoric. Not really into kpop but I really like them.

If judgement of them is based solely on a, yes, cheesy/lighthearted, song written for them to get on US radio (because for some reason sold out arenas/stadiums and breaking records isn't good enough to get Korean songs they wrote played) and a performance where two members were one day out of covid quarantine and another member was in a cast, then I'd suggest digging a little deeper.

Otherwise idk what else to say. Hopefully j-hope's performance, and their Anthology album being released tomorrow night, will make more people aware that "Butter" and "Dynamite" are not an accurate representation of their 9 year career.

Pretty likely. There was a possibility of a summer/fall tour that fans may have been holding out for, but now that that is likely off the table, this is the only announced appearance for any members so far.

 

Not surprising, but Sunday GA+, VIP and Platinum are now sold out.

 

Wristbands are shipping just got an email saying I’m getting them Thursday

 

I'm still planning on getting a hotel and going Sunday, potentially, but now I'm deciding if I want to bite the bullet and go Saturday too lol. I don't like either Saturday headliner, but then I'm also thinking...Turnstile, IDLES, YG, Willow, Coco & Clair Clair, and Pom Pom Squad is a fun day.

 

Hot Milk is now playing Sunday.

Same! Probably won't watch them at Lolla, but I'll see them at Sad Summer in Michigan.

 

What are the special guests like, typically? In the schedule it looks like there's one per day and I'm curious if it's worth skipping some of Kennyhoopla for Sunday's.
